Position Summary
The Instructional Media Developer applies instructional media production skills and project management knowledge to accomplish assigned projects and support the mission of MSU Denver. They coordinate with the Instructional Media and Support Manager, the Associate Director of Instructional Design, and heads of the instructional design teams to complete the instructional media requirements of the Instructional Design group. They work closely with faculty, the instructional design team, and other members of the instructional media team to produce instructional videos and media content. They support educational initiatives via multimedia production, graphic and motion design, writing, and web development.
Duties/Responsibilities
65% | Instructional Media Production
- Coordinates with the Instructional Media & Support Manager, Senior Instructional Designers, and the Associate Director of Instructional Design to ensure optimal outcomes for instructional media development, including tracking hours throughout the cycle for each course project
- Applies instructional media best practices across a variety of projects, including some work at all levels and all stages within different projects, such as pre-production, production roles, post-production, etc.
- Collaboratively guides Subject Matter Experts (SME) through the instructional media process
- Pre-production work includes storyboarding, scriptwriting, asset identification, scheduling, and other related tasks.
- Facilitates and guides audio recording, videography, and other media production
- Operates cameras and handles other production duties on various multi- and single-camera studio, location, classroom, and remote productions
- Locates, creates, and curates digital resources, relevant audio and graphic packages for use in the post-production phase of media projects as well as print materials
- Creates animations, animated sequences, and other multimedia objects using visual storytelling methods
- Post-production work includes editing of audio and visual assets, integration of other media, evaluation of final products, etc.
- Ensure that all multimedia content meets accessibility and usability standards, including captioning, audio descriptions, and alternative formats.
- Prepares and proofreads scripts, print documentation, website copy, process documentation, reports, and other creative/technical documentation as necessary
- Uses industry-standard learning management systems (LMS) and software to complete projects
- Uses industry-standard web authoring tools (e.g., HTML5, CSS3, etc.) to create, modify, and publish web content
- Under the direction of the Instructional Media & Support Manager, manages individual and group multimedia projects, including scheduling, time tracking, and reporting
15% Personnel Management and Project Management
- Coordinates resources and leads student employees to ensure that scope, goals, schedules, and deliverables are met for each assigned project
- Develops, reviews, implements, and updates instructional media processes and procedures
- Coordinates efforts to create systems and processes that utilize continuous improvement methodologies, and quality pedagogical approaches, and empower data-driven decision-making
- Collaborates with the larger Center for Teaching, Learning and Design team to integrate instructional media and effective teaching campus-wide
- Assign tasks to student employees and provide feedback on their work to ensure high quality and timely completion of projects.
- Maintain student employee work schedules including assignments, training, paid time off, telecommuting, and cover for absenteeism for student employees
- Attends to the professional development of the student employees
- Works to develop a welcoming, collaborative environment across the entire CTLD
10% Instructional Design Integration
- Acts as a liaison between the instructional media team and instructional design teams
- Adheres to instructional design models and theories when advising subject matter experts and when creating instructional media objects
- Reviews instructional projects to ensure adherence to standards
- Keep up-to-date with trends and best practices in instructional design and multimedia development, and provide recommendations for improvements to the instructional design process.
10% Research, Outreach, and Other Duties
- Conducts individual and group training in the use of instructional media techniques and technology that may be used to enhance student-learning experiences
- Updates, reviews, and implements instructional media processes and procedures
- Researches and works to improve technical expertise in instructional media development and the management of projects and people
- Supports events, conferences, and workshops sponsored by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Design
- Other duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a media production-related field
- Experience in video production, including a thorough knowledge of related techniques
- Experience developing multimedia components using industry-standard tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, etc.)
- Strong experience with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve Studio
- Experience with learning management systems in at least one role
- Experience with effective public speaking and giving professional presentations
- Experience producing high-quality technical writing
- Quality Matters APPQMR and PRC certification
- Knowledge of federal and state law related to usability and accessibility (ADA Section 508)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in multimedia or a writing-related field
- Experience producing instructional media in a higher education setting
- Experience using content authoring and management tools (Blackboard Collaborate, HTML5, Moodle, SCORM, etc.)
- Experience working with subject matter experts and other stakeholders in developing instructional materials.
- Experience using a media content management and streaming service (e.g., YuJa, Kaltura, etc.)
- Proficiency in industry-standard video special effects tools (e.g., Adobe After Effects)
- Experience using MSU Denver's current Learning Management Systems (LMS). (e.g., Canvas)
- Experience with graphic design in an instructional media context
- Experience applying course quality improvement using national standards (e.g., Quality Matters)
- Experience developing scripting, interactive web tools, or other applications
Salary for Announcement Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $49,900 - $62,400.The full salary range is $49,900- $74,900. This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits. Schedule Information
