Payments and Deposit Product Accounting Manager
The Payments and Deposit Product Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring Controller department maintains effective partnership with the Organization's enterprise payments, deposits and revenue liquidity product delivery. Fulfilling this responsibility includes overseeing the accounting, balancing and reconcilement activities and ensuring effective change management of new projects and process improvements impacting Payments Division. This role has responsibility for ensuring general ledger activity of corporate banking and treasury services accounting functions complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and for managing the monthly analysis of payments activities in the Corporation's income statement.
Position Responsibilities:
Divisional Partnership and Project Collaboration


  • Serve as a Controller workstream lead in Payments-related projects and collaborate with IT, business product stakeholders and other members of the Controller department to ensure project initiatives are met.
  • Partner with Treasury Management Deposit Operations and Payment Delivery Services on design of transactional processing flows supporting accurate accounting for all new products. Ensure payments and deposit operational accounting processes are well documented and understood by relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversee and advise on development, implementation, and administration of the organization's payment and deposit management platforms that impact accounting flows.
  • Ensure changes to the accounting flows and downstream reconcilement activities are designed and tested appropriately.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements, including providing technical accounting expertise and best practices for establishing new processes focused on driving effective change and reduction of manual work.
  • Engage Payments division senior management when their subledger systems or operations have problems resulting in a financial impact.
  • Manage complex relationships with senior leadership, establish relationships with various department leaders and colleagues, and drive consensus across the organization on difficult topics.


Treasury Payments and Revenue Accounting Manager


  • Provide accounting subject matter expertise and support to Controller Senior Officers tasked with oversight of Enterprise Payments and Deposit matters.
  • Responsible for robust understanding of all accounting activities posted to the general ledger from upstream deposit subledger and payments applications, including aligning or dictating the design of those accounting entries.
  • Support Accounting Systems team in GL integration troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Review of general ledger activities for Corporate Banking and Treasury Accounting functions and responsible for analyzing net interest income, card services income and deposit service charge income for the Corporation.
  • Partner with Accounting Policy area as needed to provide guidance on how to appropriately operationalize the desired accounting treatment for new or unusual transactions.
  • Provide relevant information to management and regulators in accordance with monthly, quarterly and annual closing and reporting deadlines.


Human Capital, Compliance and Risk Management


  • Partner with Product Support teams in evaluation of vendor SOC1s to ensure effective internal controls are maintained by vendors to support SOX/ERCG requirements.
  • Assists regulatory and financial reporting teams in data design and analysis as necessary from the Deposit & Payments systems for preparation of certain reports and filings.
  • Provide effective risk management oversight of department and manage internal and external audit engagements impacting areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure sound accounting controls and design accounting treatment of new or changed processes. Identify risks and establish controls and ensure control elements are performed regularly and effectively.
  • Develop and manage personnel to ensure trained, capable personnel perform responsibilities.
  • Proactively engage in team development goals, including requiring more timely robust verbal feedback to ensure team members are meeting expectations of their professional roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide feedback to department managers and team leads to address identified performance gaps promptly.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Position Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Accounting
  • 10 years or more experience in Advanced accounting experience necessary, preferably in the areas of payments, deposits, liquidity or revenue products
  • 7 years of experience with demonstrated ability to deconstruct and reconstruct workflows/processes with the intent to mitigate risks, enhance controls and/or improve efficiencies
  • 5 years of experience in direct management and supervision
  • 5 years of experience with developed knowledge of financial systems and common banking platforms
  • 5 years of experience with developed knowledge of regulations and industry activities/policies in the subject matter areas


Preferred Licenses and Certifications:


  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
