Position Summary Since its inception in 2004, Geost has been committed to solving mission-critical space domain and ISR challenges for DOD, IC, and commercial customers. Our vision is to revolutionize the space-based payload market with innovative and novel designs for space, terrestrial, and airborne environments. As we grow our operations in Tucson, AZ and Chantilly, VA, we remain dedicated to the collaborative and innovative culture that is the foundation of our business. Geost is an operating unit of LightRidge Solutions. Geost seeks an enthusiastic and highly capable Systems Engineer II to work with a multi-disciplinary team to design, develop, and test space-based electro-optical sensors. A qualified candidate will be able to apply engineering best practices to ensure the success of complex missions in pioneering space projects. This position requires a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance and is expected to spend at least 20% of the time in a classified work environment. Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, integration, and development of space-based optical instruments, subsystems, and payloads for airborne and space platforms.
- Assist in the definition, allocation, and management of technical requirements for space-based optical systems using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
- Support requirements traceability throughout the development lifecycle and help identify as well as resolve requirement conflicts or gaps.
- Collaborate with senior engineers across optical, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to ensure cohesive system integration.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation such as interface control documents (ICDs), system design descriptions (SDDs), test plans, and CONOPs.
- Participate in subsystem and system-level verification and validation activities, including test planning and data analysis.
- Aid in integration of hardware and software systems; support analysis of interface behavior and system-level compliance.
- Contribute to performance modeling and analysis using basic tools and scripting under the guidance of senior team members.
- Attend technical reviews, internal meetings, and customer discussions to gain exposure to system-level trade studies and decision-making.
- Assist in maintaining requirement databases (i.e. JAMA and DOORS) and in the generation of traceability matrices and compliance reports.
- Ability to support on-site work, as needed.
- Ability to support travel or off-site work, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field.
- An active U.S. Government Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Clearance. Current SSBI is preferred.
- Two or more years of experience in a relevant engineering role, including internships or academic projects.
- Foundational understanding of systems engineering principles, particularly requirements development and traceability.
- Exposure to tools such as JAMA, DOORS, or Cameo for requirements and system modeling.
- Basic proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages for engineering analysis and automation.
- Familiarity with space systems and optical payloads through coursework, research, or hands-on projects.
- Strong organizational and technical writing skills; able to document technical findings clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or research experience supporting aerospace, defense, or optics-related projects.
- Exposure to MBSE concepts and tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Familiarity with environmental testing flight hardware.
- Experience with configuration management practices and systems engineering documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas and data analysis tools.
- Interest in or background knowledge of astronomy, physics, imaging systems, or remote sensing.
