The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Civil Rights Compliance, with dotted line reporting to the Title IX Coordinator, the Civil Rights Case Manager is responsible for ensuring that all reports made to the Cornell Office of Civil Rights (COCR) are responded to promptly, effectively, and empathetically. Specifically, they will triage reports of discrimination and harassment, to include sexual harassment and related misconduct, conduct timely and customized outreach to involved parties to provide information on available resources, schedule intake meetings, and conduct intake meetings as appropriate. Working closely with Investigators and other COCR staff, the Case Manager will coordinate any necessary interim or supportive measures and accommodations and ensure proper case documentation through the life of a matter. The Case Manager will manage all sanction follow-up to ensure compliance with sanction outcomes. In addition, and critically, this role maintains all electronic case records to ensure case files are complete, up to date, and capture all required information.

Hybrid/Hub Remote

This position's home location is Cornell's campus in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will typically be expected to work on-site at least 3 days a week and will have the option to work remotely 2 days per week.

The New York Convenience of Employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

What We Need

  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills, and strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely, as well as the ability to exercise superior judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to take initiative and independently organize, prioritize, and carry out detailed work under time constraints.
  • Demonstrated interest in, or knowledge of, civil rights issues, trends, legal obligations, and initiatives nationally and locally.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft office suite.
  • Willingness and ability to become an expert in the office's case tracking tool (currently Guardian).
  • Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Strong understanding of higher education as a workplace.
  • Prior experience with conducting sensitive intake interviews.
  • Experience coordinating resources within a large institution and/or across a larger community agency or agencies.
  • Experience working with individuals in high distress.

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 3 days per week and on-campus 2 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
