Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
- Reporting to the ABA Director Chief Counsel for Pro Bono, the Pro Bono Manager of ABA Free Legal Answers (FLA) is responsible for the operational success of ABA Free Legal Answers. Serving as the Association's expert on the platform, this position provides direction and support to the interdisciplinary community currently comprised of 44 jurisdictions with an eye towards continued growth and impact. The Pro Bono Manager FLA is responsible for program budget development and management, grant development and fundraising, and is the primary facilitator with ABA departments and external partners, including network participants, state and local bar associations, law firms, funders, vendors, etc.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
- Lead programmatic development for ABA Free Legal Answers (FLA) and identify and implement new program ideas and pilot improvements.
- Establish measurable, objective program goals and consistent performance standards of accountability. Develop and deliver performance and progress reports to stakeholders on a regular basis
- Responsible for developing the operational budget, setting fundraising goals, and securing outside funding (grants, gifts, sponsorships) to support the project. Build relationships with funders and potential corporate sponsors. Take the lead on identifying potential funding opportunities, grant writing, and other fundraising efforts.
- Conduct in depth research and reporting and draft content for presentation at conferences.
- Build and nurture strategic partnerships, within and outside of the ABA to leverage resources, expertise, and networks for programmatic success. This includes technical and operations support for jurisdictional portals.
- Design and deliver workshops and webinars to educate administrators on platform features, inform lawyers about the platform and pro bono opportunity, and train lawyers to effectively provide pro bono.
- Establish relationships with both internal technical support and external vendors to ensure all technological needs of the program are met and adequately maintained.
- Monitor project budgets and cash flow projections.
- Stay abreast of developments in the external environment of the access to justice sector and ecosystem.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
- Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, plus 4 years directly related experience, OR possession of a Juris Doctorate or Master of Law (LLM) from an ABA-accredited law school and be in good standing.
- Demonstrated experience researching, identifying, cultivating, and maintaining donor and prospect lists and actively engaging in fundraising and development.
- Directly relevant work experience, which includes experience with program development and operations and experience in non-profit program or non-profit project management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details.
- The successful candidate will be an inquisitive and creative problem solver with demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to organize multiple stakeholders.

- Knowledge and experience in access to justice/social justice issues.

- As a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel of less than 15% of the time.
