Job Summary |
The Department of Education at Elmhurst University is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Director of Field Experiences to coordinate all aspects of field experience operations for students in teacher education programs. This includes oversight of candidate practicum and student teaching placements, monitoring student progress, maintaining relationships with partner schools, and collaborating with department faculty for all field assignments. This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills and involves collaboration with the Department Chair, Associate Chair of Licensure, and Director of Teacher Education Admission and Licensure Officer as well as Education Department faculty and staff. |
Salary Range |
$28.00-32.00. This is the expected hourly range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget. |
Essential Functions |
- Serves as Department of Education liaison to existing field sites and develops new field opportunities; serves as the contact for field experience-related issues.
- Works closely with education staff to coordinate all field placements with efficacy, maintains clear communication, and organizes placements in a timely manner.
- Oversees all phases of field work, including practicum and student teaching placements, as well as mentor and supervisor evaluations of teacher candidates.
- Establishes partnerships with school districts to secure in-service teachers with pre-service placements.
- Coordinates all communication with public schools for field experiences and develops and maintains a public school district contact database.
- Ability to travel occasionally to school sites when needed.
- Manages field experience and student teaching electronic assessments; and disaggregates data as required by the Department of Education and the State.
- Apprises school districts of Department and University requirements, program contact information, and any impending State licensure requirement changes.
- Manages the SONIA online field experience tool for all placements; and provides training for supervisors and candidates.
- *Coordinates field experiences for Early Childhood (EYC), Elementary (ELM), Special Education (SPE), Elementary Special Education (SPEL), Teaching English Learners (TEL) and Secondary (SEC) practicum placements for early field hours.
- Coordinates student teaching assignments for ELM, EYC, SPE, SPEL and SEC programs; maintains contact with district personnel and field sites.
- Oversees all communication with field partners; creates and distributes all electronic assessments and surveys to appropriate schools, districts, and Department of Education personnel, as well as to pre-service teacher candidates; collects and disaggregates all electronic field data and distributes reports to appropriate personnel.
- Assists with orientations and professional development for supervisors.
- Organizes field orientation meetings and student onboardings, and assists in maintenance of the field and student teaching databases.
- Serves on the Elmhurst University Teacher Education Committee and the Department of Education Whitener Scholarship selection committee.
- Creates and maintains spreadsheets with information on mentors, cooperating teachers, and supervisors for all practicum and student teaching placements; inputs data needed for student teaching and practicum formative and summative evaluations to be sent to mentors and supervisors; as well as Mentor Feedback Forms for SEC 450 students each term.
- Creates formal placement letters for verification for practicum placements in Blocks 1 and 2 for each candidate in the EYC, SPE and ELM programs; creates confirmation forms with candidate and district information upon placement verification of EYC, SPE, SEC, and ELM programs.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's Degree or higher
- Ability to work well with staff, faculty, students and Pre-K-12 education personnel
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to generate partnership opportunities within the public school community
- Public school district experience

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with online field experience logging tools
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Proficiency creating and working with spreadsheets
- Educational administrative experience

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements |
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. |
