Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Systems and Storage Administrator to support the design, administration, and lifecycle management of our hybrid cloud and on-premises IT infrastructure. This is a part-time position requiring residence in the Hampton, Virginia or Huntsville, Alabama area.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in Windows and Linux systems administration, SAN/NAS storage, backup and recovery, and hybrid cloud architectures (AWS & Azure). This individual will also assist in system architecture planning, documentation, and contribute to automation and infrastructure as code (IaC) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administration of Windows and Linux servers across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Manage enterprise storage solutions (SAN/NAS), including capacity planning, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
  • Design and execute backup and recovery strategies; perform regular recovery testing to validate resilience.
  • Support and enhance AWS and Azure IaaS workloads and hybrid integrations.
  • Administer and optimize Active Directory environments, including Group Policy, OU structure, and identity integration with cloud platforms.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent tools.
  • Write and maintain automation scripts in Python, Bash, and PowerShell to streamline system management tasks.
  • Provide support and leadership in systems architecture planning and lifecycle management.
  • Oversee and improve systems, ensuring seamless and secure connectivity between on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Maintain comprehensive systems documentation and contribute to IT knowledge base and process documentation.
  • Manage system-related asset tracking and support corporate Asset Management practices.
  • Align work with ITIL and Agile methodologies to enhance service delivery, change management, and incident response processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams and business stakeholders to meet technical and operational objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Residence in or ability to commute to Hampton, VA or Huntsville, AL as required for on-site work.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Years of experience may be substituted for degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in Windows and Linux systems administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with enterprise SAN/NAS storage administration.
  • Proven experience designing and executing backup and recovery processes.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and Azure IaaS services and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Proficient in Active Directory administration and security.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks and automation scripting using Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
  • Solid understanding of systems networking (routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, VPN).
  • Experience with systems architecture, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to develop and maintain clear and detailed systems documentation.
  • Familiarity with Asset Management best practices and tools.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL framework and Agile methodologies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications in Windows/Linux systems administration
  • Certifications in Storage management
  • AWS/Azure certifications
  • ITIL/Agile certifications
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as NIST 800-53, CMMC, or ISO 27001.
  • Experience implementing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.

Salary is DOE: $38.13 - $65 Hourly in part-time wages
