This is a Limited part time 60% position

The Division of Cardiology at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), a major teaching hospital of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), is recruiting for an Adult Echo (Cardiac) Sonographer. We are seeking an outstanding professional with a record of excellence in providing echocardiography services to patients in a combined hospital and outpatient setting.

The echocardiographic lab at ZSFG is a friendly and collegial place to work. We believe in team work, providing excellent service, and supporting the overall mission of UCSF and SFDPH in providing exceptional patient care while promoting education and research. This position is primarily clinical, including performance of transthoracic studies in the echo lab as well as portable studies in patient units or procedural areas and exercise or pharmacologic stress tests. Participation in research, quality improvement, and education of students and residents/fellows is also expected and enriches this position.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description

The Clinical Pharmacology Research Program in the Division of Cardiology conducts research on the impact of nicotine, tobacco and cannabis use on public health. The research portfolio is varied and includes clinical trials, pharmacokinetic and observational studies. The Division of Clinical Pharmacology's research focuses on the human pharmacology of nicotine in relation to pathogenesis of, and individual differences in vulnerability to tobacco-related disease, and the use of pharmacologic data as a basis for public health policies to prevent and reduce such disease.

Required Qualifications


  • Two years of college, preferably with courses in physiology, psychology and electronics, and one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound technology which includes successful completion of a traineeship in ultrasonic technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Successful completion of the ARDMS and/or CCI examination or equivalent training certification
  • Graduation from an accredited Cardiac Sonography program
  • 2 years of working and scanning experience in an echocardiography lab after graduation
  • Experience with stress echocardiography

Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiarity with both GE and Philips equipment
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Previous work in research, teaching/mentoring, or quality improvement projects.

License/Certification


  • Successful completion of the ARDMS and/or CCI examination or equivalent training certification.
