The Position

Genentech Archive Specialist, reporting into the Basel-based Historical Collection & Archive.

The Opportunity

The Genentech Historical Collection and Archive is part of the Roche Group's archival network centered in Basel (Switzerland). As core provider of long-term conservation of data and objects within the Roche Group, its employees negotiate the interests of the group between two requirements: creating legal certainty by securing rights and usage of our historical assets for public relations purposes. The active management of the physical and digital collections provides the basis for the usage of the assets for legal or communication purposes. The department helps to keep our unique company culture relatable and alive for each new generation of stakeholders, in alignment with the current strategic direction of the company set by the Board of Directors and the Corporate Executive Committee. By providing contextualized information at the right time as applicable knowledge, the archive creates distinctive value for its clients.
For our small team spanning key locations of the group worldwide, we are looking for a colleague who has a deep intrinsic curiosity in extracting the background stories from the collections we administer. Passion for our purpose, flexibility and versatility are key requirements in this position.

Key tasks:

  • Registration of objects, files etc. in our electronic archives system
  • Active, independent decision-making on the long-term retention of documents and objects
  • Adequate packing of artifacts and files
  • Setting up inventories throughout California in cooperation with the Basel colleagues
  • Management of research requests
  • Active protection of the company's interests by gauging potential reputational risks
  • Advising Genentech staff regarding contents, usage and design for communicative and strategic
  • purposes (exhibitions, publications, and lectures), preparation of data for these usages
  • - Preparation of articles, social media content and other publications on history-related topics both in print and digital formats for internal and external purposes
  • Cleaning and mending of objects and files, organization of protective measures and participation in other conservation activities

Requirements:

  • MA in archive and information science or equivalent, work experience in archives or collections
  • English language mastery. Further languages are a plus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $135,800 - $252,200 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
