Position Summary
The NC Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology ( SPICE) promotes prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections in North Carolina and beyond by providing evidence based infection control education and consultation across the healthcare spectrum throughout the state. SPICE will be responsible for conducting infection control assessments for a variety of healthcare settings to identify infection prevention gaps that may be present.

The primary purpose of this Infection Preventionist to collect, assess, measure and analyze the ability of hospitals, nursing homes, and ambulatory care clinics to prevent and manage healthcare-associated infections and outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. This position will assist with addressing gaps in infection prevention practices in a variety of healthcare facilities, develop infection prevention guidance targeted to all healthcare facilities, and facilitate more robust healthcare readiness for high consequence infectious disease threats including SARS CoV-2.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Demonstrates familiarity with infection prevention guidelines and standards.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of infection prevention.
  • Previous experience providing instruction to nursing and medical staff on disease processes, infection prevention techniques and best practices highly desired.
  • Previous public speaking experience also preferred.
  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) is highly desired.
