The Opportunity

We're looking for a Principal Scientist to serve as the architect and technical leader for our internal engineering and data platform. Horizon is an internal platform for the development, delivery, and operation of next-generation creative web apps, mobile apps, and services. The role requires strong individual technical expertise and leadership skills that can span key organizational pillars that include production readiness, developer experience and data platform.

As a Horizon engineering platform Architect you will join a team designing and implementing a unified data approach for understanding users, driving and measuring product improvements, understanding and managing production systems, and improving engineering health. In addition you will also be responsible for initiatives across the other engineering platform pillars.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work across different teams as a tech lead Architect and evolve the internal data platform to serve both operational and AI/ML needs.

  • Partner Collaborate with outstanding engineers, product leaders and engineers across the company to understand needs and align platform capabilities with business priorities.

  • Develop reusable systems and practices to ingest, transform and serve data for user analytics, product success, system observability, and developer productivity.

  • Define technical strategy for data architecture, data governance and other pillars as business needs require.

  • Architect platform components for production readiness, including scalability, reliability and operational observability.

  • Design for exceptional developer experience by establishing architectural patterns, tooling standards and self-service interfaces.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship for junior team members.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • 15+ years of experience in full-stack software development, data science, data engineering, developer experience or related fields

  • Proven success in designing and scaling internal data platforms or ML infrastructure

  • Deep knowledge of modern data stack technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Snowflake)

  • Strong understanding of architectural principles for production systems, scalability, reliability and monitoring.

  • Experience designing for developer experience: API's, automation, CI/CD tooling, documentation and platform self-service.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Good articulation and storytelling to convey technical visions within cross functional teams and at executive levels.

  • Track record of technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this positionis $190,200 -- $351,300 annually. Paywithin this range varies by work locationand may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills,and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans. Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
