About the Team

The Scale Brand Studio is a strategic, multidisciplinary creative team shaping how Scale shows up in the world. We're responsible for the design and evolution ofscale.com, the creation of original content (illustration, iconography, motion, and visual storytelling), and the development of marketing assets across all touchpoints-from campaigns and video to event design and product storytelling. As we grow, we're building a brand studio that not only delivers exceptional work, but continues to raise the bar for creative excellence as an aspirational AI company. This is a unique opportunity to help define the future of the Scale brand and build a design function that matches the ambition of our mission. This role blends creative direction with hands-on execution, guiding visual quality across the team.

What You'll Do



  • Contribute to a growing team of designers and creatives responsible for shaping Scale's visual identity
  • Own the visual expression of the Scale brand across all surfaces-uphold the craft bar, direct creative workstreams, lead design crits, shape scalable visual systems, and guide key creative decisions
  • Drive hands-on design directions from concept through execution-across digital, print, motion, and event environments
  • Partner with Brand Studio leadership and cross-functional teams across Marketing, Product, and Comms to co-create brand initiatives
  • Evolve and maintain a brand system that enables consistency and creative flexibility across internal and external communications
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver high-impact work that is visually innovative and strategically sound
  • Implement scalable design systems and creative processes that enable fast iteration without sacrificing quality


Ideally You'll Have:



  • 10+ years of brand design and creative direction experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role-including experience with culturally-defining and design-led brands
  • A proven track record of leading design teams within fast-paced, high-growth companies where speed, ambiguity, and complexity are part of the day-to-day
  • Experience translating complex, technical concepts into accessible, compelling narratives
  • A portfolio that reflects strong visual, typographic, and strategic thinking across a variety of formats-from digital campaigns to brand systems
  • Strong leadership and creative mentorship skills, with the ability to inspire and guide both senior and junior creatives
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, especially when collaborating cross-functionally or with executive stakeholders
  • A passion for emerging technologies and the ability to explore, critique, and push the use of generative AI tools in service of great creative
  • Fluent in hands-on design skills in Figma, Adobe, and emerging AI tools
  • A leadership style that balances high standards with empathy, clarity, and creative trust


Nice To Have:



  • Experience working at a fast-paced startup and agencies
  • Experience working in AI or with innovative AI tools
  • Background in web design, motion design, 3D or illustration
  • Experience managing external creative vendors and freelancers
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to contribute to brand voice and messaging when needed

Compensation packages at Scale for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position, determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Scale employees in eligible roles are also granted equity based compensation, subject to Board of Director approval. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process, and confirm whether the hired role will be eligible for equity grant. You'll also receive benefits including, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, and generous PTO. Additionally, this role may be eligible for additional benefits such as a commuter stipend.

The base salary range for this full-time position in the location of San Francisco is:
$204,000 $255,000 USD
