Materials Engineering Manager - NSK Corporation The Company NSK is a global manufacturer of ball and roller bearings, linear motion technology, automotive components and steering systems with both domestic and overseas manufacturing. The Materials Engineering Manager Role Leads a team of engineers and technicians who provide material direction and analysis, primarily on metallic and occasionally non-metallic materials, for NSK's engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams. Responsibilities
- Leads and guides the plant in technical related activities. Works across department lines to develop solutions for problems related to manufacturing.
- Manages and supervises technical staff, coordinates improvement activities related to monitoring and maintaining equipment. Works to reduce costs, improve quality, safety, and uncover expansion opportunities.
- Proactively analyzes data to anticipate problems before they occur, develops countermeasures, new methods and products to reach higher levels of success.
- Leverage internal and external relationships to develop improvements to operate inside of the operating budget.
- Provides technical direction and assistance on material analysis and selection, primarily metallic components but sometimes also non-metallic, material matters in support of product design, quality, manufacturing, and purchasing functions of NSK Corporation.
- Represents NSK engineering in matters related to production material requirements and material processing requirements for NSK Corp manufacturing plants and for NSK suppliers.
- Provides guidance and leadership for approval and guidance of North American domestic material sources and others within the same functional group.
- Completes materials analyses for various internal and external customers, which includes sample preparation, hardness testing, microstructure and macrostructure analysis testing, cleanliness testing, and reporting. This will frequently include complex analyses requiring extra research, supplier visits, development of new or revised analysis methods, presentation of results in cross-functional team meetings, etc.
- Act as materials expert in various Quality Systems Group Audits at NSK manufacturing plants as required.
- Acts as material expert at NSK; this includes supporting procurement/supplier development projects, assisting with root cause/corrective action in response to materials-related plant issues, and providing materials-related training. Acts as a subject matter expert in one or more material types and/or manufacturing processes.
Qualifications
- This job requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 8 to 10 years of position-related experience; preferably over 10 years of position-related experience.
