Job Summary

Westside Health Center at Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for a Medical Director for our adult internal medicine clinic. The Medical Director manages the staff and operation of a clinic or group of clinics at Denver Health in collaboration with other Medical Directors and Department Chairs. It includes direct supervision of physicians and advanced practice providers within assigned clinics. The position works closely with clinic leadership to ensure smooth daily operations and is responsible for monitoring clinical performance, ensuring productivity, and leading quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, the role includes performing approved direct patient care, coordination with specialists and medical procedures. FTE allocated to this position depends on number of yearly visits and overall budget.

Essential Functions:

Responsible for management of staff and the operations of a clinic at Denver Health in cooperation with other Medical Directors and Chairs of Family Medicine, GIM, or Pediatrics

  • Direct Supervision of MDs, DOs and advanced practice providers within their assigned clinic(s).

  • Work collaboratively and directly supervise Nurse Manager/Program manager and clerical supervisor to ensure successful clinical operations

  • Participation in leadership related activities and duties including but not limited to monthly leadership meetings

  • Knowledge of or accountable for clinical performance measures, quality improvement, and productivity

Performs privileged procedures as outlined in the Denver Health and Hospital Authority Medical Staff Departments of Family Medicine, GIM and Pediatrics Clinical Privileges documentation.

Practice Management Time for Patient Care

Education:

  • Doctorate Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of outpatient clinic experience with demonstrated leadership qualities and evidence of leading initiatives at the clinic or division level, or oversight of advanced practice providers. Eligible for appointment or promotion to Assistant professor in their department.

Licenses:

  • MD/DO Required State of Colorado
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Has adequate knowledge and skill of all privileged procedures as outlined in the Denver Health and Hospital Authority Medical Staff Privileges documentation.

Knowledge and interest in multi-disciplinary ambulatory care, ability to work in teams and motivate physicians and other providers to improve quality, patient experience and operational efficiency.

Communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff as well as administration.

Possess critical thinking, analytical and teaching/coaching skills.

Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff while providing quality medical care

Able to analyze, interpret and act upon relevant clinical, financial and quality improvement data that pertain to the practice.

Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.

Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.

Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.

Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

Ability to accept and implement change.

Demonstrated history of positive collegial relations with colleagues, support staff, providers, administrators and patients.

Participation and leadership in programming and projects with reach beyond the home clinic; e.g. QI work, special projects, grant work, work with non-DH agencies such as State/Local
