Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has multiple, exciting opportunities for a Patient Services Coordinator to support our offices in Norfolk.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling, rescheduling, and cancelling patient appointments from orders, reports, and communications
  • Professionally contacting patients via phone and electronic communications to complete scheduling and associated tasks
  • Answering patient questions regarding scheduling appointments for internal services
  • Providing instructions to patients regarding appointment
  • Courteously receiving incoming phone calls and responding, addressing, taking messages, and forwarding as appropriate
  • Verification of patient demographic and insurance information, processing demographic and insurance updates for entry into practice systems, and appropriate notification communications for changes in patient information or appointment data
  • Filing documents, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean, professional, and organized work area
  • Provide general administrative support to patients and practice
  • Other duties as requested or assigned

Qualifications

  • Receptionist or office experience preferred
  • 3 years of medical office experience with scheduling background in a busy practice strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft (Outlook, Office Word, and Excel) required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be willing to travel to other office locations if needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be present at the employee site during regularly scheduled business hours and regularly required to sit or stand and talk or hear. The position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. The position requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. The employee occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. The position requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
