Job Description:

The Lead Shipping Associate delivers on our Purpose by ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the warehouse, from receiving goods to fulfilling customer orders. This role oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the warehouse, including tasks such as managing the workload, ensuring safety, and maintaining inventory. As part of a growing Team, this role will have the opportunity to develop and refine current processes to ensure they become more efficient and effective. The Lead Shipping Associate is a strong collaborator who is detail-oriented and enjoys working in a dynamic environment where they'll get to use their continuous process improvement mindset to drive the future of Southwest.

  • Responsibilities
    • Maintain accurate asset and inventory records in Dash - ServiceNow
    • Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in the warehouse
    • Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools and/or power tools
    • Drive physical inventories
    • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials
    • Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped. Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, or record keeping purposes
    • Confer or correspond with Team Leader to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or non-conformance to specifications
    • Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials
    • Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins
    • Support Team Leader with Thought Leadership on logistics and warehouse operations and participates in creating plans for improvement and roadmaps
    • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
    • Ability to be a self-starter and work well unsupervised
    • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
    • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods
    • Ability to determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it independently
    • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making, and the ability to relate this to peers
    • Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
    • Ability to monitor and assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action
    • Ability to help manage the teams* work and tickets to meet agreed SLA*s
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Systems Adobe Acrobat, IBM Content Manager, IBM Notes, ServiceNow
  • Education
    • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience
    • Required: Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
      • shipping and receiving
      • operating a forklift
    • Preferred: Experience with Excel, ServiceNow, and QuickBase
    • Preferred: Experience with inventory auditing, delegating tasks, leading meetings, onboarding new employees and implementing standard operating procedures
  • Licensing/Certification
    • Must possess a current, valid driver*s license issued in the United States for Box Truck operation and deliveries
    • Forklift certification
  • Physical Abilities
    • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
    • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
    • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
    • Ability to sit for long periods of time
    • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Other Qualifications
    • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits

Competitive market salary from $48,500 per year to $53,900 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
