DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Emergency Management Watch Officer, you must calmly look at an emergency, analyze possible actions, and have a passion to support county and local responders. This position provides critical emergency information by collecting, coordinating, and prioritizing time-sensitive data to notify appropriate parties of necessary information so they can determine appropriate action. Your expertise in customer service will allow you to coordinate with municipal, county, governmental entities, open sources, media, and non-government organizations to continuously improve the quality of operations to benefit the customers and citizens.

You will collaborate with our talented workforce to implement the agency's strategic initiatives, which requires the ability to perform well under pressure, situational awareness, and knowledge of resource and recovery support and planning. In emergency situations, your critical thinking skills will be utilized to collect and analyze information to ensure actions are coordinated appropriately and that all appropriate persons are alerted accordingly. Not only will you execute current emergency plans and procedures, but you will participate in improving work processes, recommending equipment updates, and prepare for disasters through exercises and drills, as well as have the opportunity to learn and perform other roles during a response center activation. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 PM to 9:00 AM, 3 12.5 hour days per week, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • In the event of an emergency/disaster situation or training exercise, this position may be required to travel and work outside of the normal work hours, including weekends and overnights.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of emergency coordination experience within the operation of a large municipal, county, statewide or national emergency center; and an associate degree in emergency management or other closely related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:
