Lead and conduct energy market and economic analysis in support of API's senior management, policy, communications, and government relations functions, for external consumption by API members, policymakers, and the public. Identify, analyze, and communicate information to raise internal API as well as public understanding of energy markets and implications of energy policies. Enhance API's capacity to explain market developments of short- and long-run significance and inform API's advocacy. This position reports to the Director for Energy Market Analysis within the Office of Economics and Research. Duties/Responsibilities
- Identify, understand, analyze, and communicate key interactions between energy markets, policies, regulations, and the macroeconomy.
- Use advanced data visualization and written communications skills to contribute to advocacy efforts at federal and state levels as well as technical expertise on issues to educate and help support API staff and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Policy, Economics & Regulatory Affairs Division staff in the development of near-term and long-term deliverables, including briefs, white papers, presentations, articles, and relevant economic and energy policy issues.
- Collect, monitor, and analyze energy market, economic, financial, and other data relevant to the crude oil and natural gas industry, such as:
- U.S. and international crude oil, petroleum product, and natural gas markets.
- U.S. and international macroeconomic data and indicators as they relate to energy demand and overall economic conditions.
- Capital markets, company financial indicators, and industry economic contributions, employment, and investment trends.
- Relevant economic and financial metrics covering the oil and natural gas value chain: upstream, midstream, downstream, and international trade flows.
- Other segments of the energy industry and relevant commodity markets as needed.

Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in a similar role, and advanced subject matter expertise. Requires knowledge of key programmatic, operational, and financial issues and priorities.
- Bachelor's degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience (Master's degree preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of the oil and natural gas industry is required, including a detailed understanding of domestic and international energy data, corporate financial reporting, and financial/commodity markets.
- Extensive knowledge of international energy and economic data sources such as Bloomberg, EIA, IEA, OPEC, JODI, Rystad, EUROSTAT, World Bank, IMF, etc.
- Experience organizing, writing, editing, and producing finished written energy analysis products.
- Excellent computer and advanced data skills, including spreadsheet, graphics, word processing and familiarity with energy/economic modeling. (Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications)
