The Senior Development Manager shall be responsible for overseeing the execution of a portfolio of projects under their assignment. Subject to the discretion of the Associate Director of Development, the Head of Development, and Steelhead leadership, the Senior Development Manager may be responsible for one or two direct reports on their regional development team. Responsibilities consist of advancing the project development efforts for renewable energy development projects under the Senior Development Manager's purview, and collaborating and overseeing cross-functional teams responsible for the origination, acquisition, due diligence, advancement, and commercialization of renewable energy projects within the Senior Development Manager's purview. Responsibilities * Management, Communication and Reporting: o Execute regional, department, and company-wide strategy with respect to regional project development o Manage and facilitate all reporting through consistent project information tracking via internal tracking systems and reports o Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks while maintaining development budget and schedule and anticipating upcoming major decisions o Facilitate internal approval process, including providing specialized knowledge and major decision recommendations o Participate in regular development partnership meetings o Inform and collaborate with cross-functional teams on a regular basis o Liaise with all internal stakeholders as required to facilitate decision approval at appropriate milestones o Maintain effective working relationships and communication with internal business development, engineering, wind resource, construction, sales, service, legal, finance, and other subject matter teams * Development and Project Management: o In coordination with the real estate managers, execute, manage, and support land acquisition campaigns, including identification of landowners, initiating contact, and negotiating land agreements, including but not limited to energy leases, purchase and sale contracts, collection and transmission line easements, access road easements, and right of way easements o Maintain existing landowner communications with project update phone calls and letters, newsletters, project update meetings, and presentations o Handle and facilitate communications and negotiations with external stakeholders, including but not limited to contractors, community members, permit agencies, utilities and other stakeholders including oversight of local, state and/or federal permitting processes o Manage consultants - for example, environmental, engineering, aviation, and biological consultants on projects - including engagement, contracting, scope management, invoice review and approval, and discontinuation of efforts o Collaborate with engineering team and external consultants to evaluate site layouts and constraints, technology options, schedule implications, interconnection applications and studies o Negotiate key project agreements such as Road Use Agreements, Conditional Use Permits and Tax Abatements o Facilitate contracting for pre-construction activities such as preliminary geotechnical engineering, preliminary engineering. * Business Development o Coordinate real estate due diligence, review seller-provided materials, and provide risk assessment for acquisition opportunities. o Support Business Development in executing attractive growth opportunities effectively, including development investments, acquisition and joint ventures, and eventual project sales o Support pipeline growth through acquisition via opportunity prospecting and due diligence of developer and project (and the management of involved regional project development team efforts) o Assist in the commercialization of projects by sharing knowledge on development fundamentals, engaging in conversations with prospective project sponsors, and overseeing the efforts of the regional project development team o Prospect investment opportunities and provide valuable support to the diligence process for acquisition opportunities, including evaluating developer capabilities and project level risks o Support the Finance and Legal departments during interaction with third parties (tax equity, construction financing, etc.) to ensure transaction terms are favorable * People and Culture o At the discretion of leadership, serve as the reporting manager for one or two direct reports o Coordinate with leadership and the People and Culture Team regarding team management issues, as necessary Qualifications * A bachelor's degree in business, Engineering or related discipline; MBA or related Masters' degree. * A minimum of 4 years' experience in renewable energy development, with significant experience in management of multiple wind energy development projects * Has robust knowledge and capabilities in all the aspects of project development, including key project agreements/contracts, commercial markets, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), permitting, transmission and interconnection, land acquisition, and financial analysis * Has extensive experience in and understanding of the North American power sector, including legal/regulatory aspects, market environment, competition, stakeholders, counterparties, and other areas that impact growth initiatives. * Has a background in leading projects through financial close at Notice to Proceed (NTP) and Commercial Operation Date (COD). * Mature working knowledge of environmental sensitivities, development challenges, permitting and interconnection processes. * Demonstrated ability to build relationships and interface effectively with cross-functional employee groups and external stakeholders * Comfortable handling multiple tasks and prioritizing competing demands in a structured work environment * Committed and creative problem-solver who is motivated to assess, solve, communicate and implement strategic solutions to complex, multifaceted challenges * Advanced problem-solving and negotiating capabilities, prioritizing thoroughness in every aspect * Has a well-established network of relationships among key stakeholders in the market / industry * Shows great proficiency in both speaking and presenting to diverse audiences * Understands financial models, risks, rewards, and what drives value in greenfield projects / acquisition opportunities. * Has knowledge in developing, negotiating, and executing complex project agreements. * Can be an effective spokesperson and public representative for Vestas Americas. * Willing to travel regularly within US and Canada (expected 20-50%) * Competencies * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Project, OneNote and Teams) * Problem-solving skills * Effective communication proficiency * Ability to work effectively with others * Ability to interact frequently with others in a professional, courteous manner * Ability to travel to job sites as needed Salary range: $150,000 - 170,000 CCPA Notice for California Applicants BEWARE - RECRUITMENT FRAUD DEIB Statement About Vestas |
