Overview

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) has an immediate career opening for a Security Force Lieutenant II (midnight to 8:00 a.m. shift). This opening is located at IDA's Center for Communications Research in Princeton, New Jersey (CCRP). We are seeking a Security Force Lieutenant II to assist in controlling access and means for gaining access by any persons to restricted areas, equipment, materials or documents. The Lieutenant will provide information or instructions to persons requesting these services within the scope of responsibility, knowledge, and duty of the Security Force Staff. This position provides direction and guidance to lower level security staff. Due to the nature of the work, this position is often required to work varied shifts including overtime hours and holidays. The CCRP complex must be staffed by the security force at all times and therefore, the security force is considered to be essential personnel.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares the daily work schedule and assigns security force to designated work areas/posts. Ensures all duties and assignments are carried out in a timely, accurate, and professional manner, as per instructed procedures during their shift. Communicates all shift activities relevant to security operations, and personnel performance to their supervisor in a timely manner.
  2. Ensures all security personnel on the shift are proficient in all assigned duties, and consistently trains and reinforces security standard operations at CCR-P.
  3. Reviews and corrects documentation, to include log entries, assignment completion, and all associated security reports and paperwork during assigned shift.
  4. Maintains familiarity with all normal and emergency procedures, each duty post, and the physical layout of the facility and grounds. Maintains proficiency in the operation of the intrusion detection, video surveillance, and personnel access control systems, to including red badge warning/intercom systems, and fire/safety systems; reports any observed malfunctions to Guard Captain. Learns about and adapts to all existing and future security enhancing system add-ons, changes and upgrades.
  5. Regulates personnel entry into building and adjacent areas; checks personnel identification badges; ensures visitors have authorized entry and secures means of proper identification; maintains log of visitors.
  6. Ensures the protection and proper control of sensitive material to include documents, printouts, and associated media during security checks within the controlled area of the facility.
  7. Records all security related occurrences in an accurate and timely manner throughout the shift by maintaining logs, reports, and completing all required security paperwork.
  8. Escorts uncleared personnel; performs safety/security tours in and about the CCR-P complex.
  9. Performs the duties of receptionist when required, including answering phones, logging in calls, and operating the postal meter/scale system.
  10. Performs customer service as required, provides local area transportation to visitors and IDA staff using CCR-P company vehicle.
  11. Must dress in proper security attire provided by CCR-P and maintain a professional appearance at all times while on duty. This may include variations of the standard uniform as directed.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned, which may include tasks outside the normal scope of security.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Three or more years experience in a security related environment (preferably in a defense related organization).
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Physically able to respond to alarms in specified time limit, able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Experience using computers and associated software, and familiarity with security related equipment.
  • Ability to obtain necessary security clearance (TS//SI).
  • Must be prepared to work different shifts and overtime hours on short notice as needs dictate.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

We support transparency, equity and fairness in our compensation program and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range based on data-driven market analysis for each position. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $45,000-$72,000. Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience, unique skills and qualifications and other relevant factors.
