The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Internal Auditor helps lead the planning and performance of risk-based internal audits. The Senior Internal Auditor reports to the Internal Audit Manager and is primarily responsible for audit planning, preparation of risk assessments, process documentation, identifying key controls, creating work programs, performing audit tests, drafting audit reports, and managing stakeholders, including tracking recommendations to closure.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead internal audit engagements, from planning and risk assessment to reporting and issue resolution.

  • Assist Internal Audit management in mentoring and developing audit staff.

  • Develop process documentation, which identifies risks and key controls.

  • Review audit workpapers.

  • Recommend practical process and control improvements.

  • Prepare well-written reports summarizing audit findings.

  • Collaborate with management to develop action plans which address findings and recommendations.

  • Monitor internal audit recommendations and management action plans to help ensure timely completion.

  • Establish effective and collaborative working relationships with all levels of WWP teammates.

  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Three years of internal or external auditing experience.

Preferences

  • Non-profit internal auditing experience.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a similar financial degree, or an information technology degree.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE

Requirements

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or an equivalent professional qualification such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Chartered Accountant (ICAEW or ACCA).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment: temperature controlled.

  • Sitting for extended periods.

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 5 pounds.

  • Up to 5% travel.
