Description

New Flyer is North America's heavy-duty transit bus leader and offers the most advanced product line under the Xcelsior and Xcelsior CHARGE brands. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Hand to join our team. In this role, you will oversee a group of assembly workers, ensure efficient production while adhering to quality and safety standards at our facility.

Position is open to internal candidates only.

As a Lead Hand, you will play a crucial role in mentoring team members, organizing work flow, and ensuring that operational goals are met. Your leadership will help foster a positive work environment and drive continuous improvement across our assembly processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Report unsafe work condition and injuries immediately to appropriate personnel
  • Establish front line communications with direct employees on issues surrounding safety
  • Enforce employee adherence to established quality standards, review out of station and customer quality data and action
  • Support the reject process
  • Support 5S initiative by promoting CI activities, addressing audit issues, maintaining cleaning sheets and promoting the initiative
  • Support OPEN activities by promoting employee involvement, attending Kaizan events, shop floor training, and housekeeping activities
  • Keep VIS boards up to date and accurate
  • Support cell leader by monitoring equipment condition and availability, speaking in morning toolbox talks, performing maintenance requests, and transferring parts
  • Support cell operations by attending meetings, working log items, and communicating with cell team on issues effecting performance
  • Coordinate work activities in and out of station; manpower load, dispatch, tracking, ECO's shortages
  • Walk upstream coaches daily to access and distribute manpower for out of station activities, to include up-line quality
  • Ensure training is in place and maintained to provide flexibility and coverage within the cell with a forward look at upcoming product mixes and model changes
  • Create team unity through employee response and actions. Communicate objectives and direction to all
  • Engage in long term planning aspects of manpower, layout, tooling, SWAT process, virtual bus, etc.
  • Support the disciplinary process by reporting issues of noncompliance per CBA agreement
Requirements
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Strong knowledge of assembly processes and quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must have intermediate level of computer skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours if necessary.
