Job Description
Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greenville - 131 Oakmont Dr. Greenville, NC - is currently seeking a Pianist / Collaborative Musician.

The Pianist / Collaborative Musician plays a vital role in the musical life of the UUCG. This position provides musical accompaniment for Sunday worship services and supports the choir during rehearsal, contributing to a diverse and inspiring musical program that aligns with Unitarian Universalist principles and themes.

Key Responsibilities
Worship Service Accompaniment:

  • Provide piano accompaniment for hymns, congregational singing, and other musical elements during the weekly Sunday worship service (typically 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM).
  • Play prelude, offertory, postlude, and other instrumental selections as planned in collaboration with the Minister and/or Music Coordinator/Committee.
  • Accompany guest musicians or vocalists as needed during services.
  • Be prepared to play a variety of musical styles, reflecting the diverse and inclusive nature of Unitarian Universalist worship (e.g., classical, folk, contemporary, world music, jazz, etc.).


Choir Support:

  • Accompany the choir during weekly rehearsal (typically 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM on Sundays).
  • Provide support to choir members in learning new music and playing parts as needed.

Collaboration and Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Music Director to plan and select music that complements weekly worship themes and enhances the spiritual experience for the congregation.
  • Communicate musical selections and any specific needs in a timely manner for inclusion in the order of service.

Professionalism and Reliability:

  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance for all scheduled rehearsals and services.
  • Arrange for a competent substitute in case of unavoidable absence, with advance notification to the Music Director.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with the Minister, staff, choir members, and congregants.

Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in piano performance, with strong sight-reading skills.
  • Experience in accompanying choirs and congregational singing.
  • Ability to perform and adapt to a wide range of musical styles.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Unitarian Universalist hymnody and values.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Experience in a church or similar community setting is preferred but not required.
