The Role:

As the Executive Director of Communication for Providence St. Joseph Health, you will spearhead the development, coordination, and administration of communication programs that encompass public relations, reputation management, social media, and executive communication. You will provide senior leadership and strategic direction to a team responsible for organization-wide communication initiatives, ensuring alignment with our strategic priorities. Your role will specifically focus on supporting the Providence Clinical Network, clinical services, and overall organizational communication needs. As a strategic partner and counselor, you will build enduring relationships across executives, core leaders, and caregivers to ensure that the organizational voice, Mission, Vision, and Values are woven into all communication efforts.

What You'll Do:



  • Strategic Collaborator: Work collaboratively with regional teams to develop communication strategies that enhance the reputation of PSJH and its family of organizations through effective public relations, media relations, crisis management, and social media initiatives.
  • Communication Leader: Lead communication strategy and support for the Providence Clinical Network, ensuring clear and effective messaging for clinical services and organizational needs.
  • Independent Innovator: Independently create and implement high-quality communication plans and messaging that meet PSJH standards, reinforcing the organizational voice and narrative.
  • Catholic Identity Advocate: Strengthen our identity as a Catholic healthcare ministry by ensuring communications reflect our Mission, Vision, Values, and the culture of our founding congregations.
  • Strategic Counselor: Provide ongoing communication counsel and support, ensuring alignment across organizational and regional messaging and programs.
  • Information Guardian: Manage and improve the delivery of messaging to caregivers and audiences, coordinating closely with marketing and communication leadership to maintain consistency and power across channels.


What You'll Bring:



  • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of demonstrated senior management experience leading successful communication teams and programs, preferably in healthcare.
  • Faith-Based Expertise: Experience in a faith-based health system/organization is preferred.
  • Collaborative Skills: Ability to work effectively across a matrixed marketing and communication team, delivering quick and consistent messaging across channels.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to forge strategic business relationships with senior executives and board leadership at both organizational and regional levels.

Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.
