Senior Clinical Pharmacist - Home Infusion

The Senior Clinical Pharmacist is an advanced practitioner in a specialized area of pharmacy practice responsible for dispensing and monitoring a variety of home infusion therapies, coordinating care with providers, and working to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. In addition, the Senior Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring cost-effective delivery, consistent customer service, clinical effectiveness, and patient safety, and overseeing sterile compounding and technicians as appropriate. The Senior Clinical Pharmacist works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary care team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, case managers, technicians, billing analysts, and patient service coordinators. Operating out of UC Davis Health's brand new, state of the art, Pharmacy Shared Services Center, the Senior Clinical Pharmacist provisions clinical and operational medication management for a variety of therapies spanning from specialty infusion to traditional acute therapy. Therapeutic areas the Senior Clinical Pharmacist will actively provide care include but are not limited to, rheumatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, infectious diseases, parenteral nutrition, hematology, dermatology, allergy, and oncology. As a steward of patient safety, the Senior Clinical Pharmacist will assist with USP-compliant sterile compounding operations and technology within the facility's new 1,800 square foot modular cleanroom.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

• California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
• PharmD or equivalent education and experience
• Infusion pharmacy experience
• Ability to supervise technicians and establish priorities of workflow in an infusion pharmacy.
• Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with other staff and patients.
• Working knowledge of sterile products, IV additive preparation, and USP chapters 797 and 800
• Computer skills to facilitate electronic prescribing and physician order verification.
• Working knowledge of basic clinical software programs.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated problem solving, decision-making skills, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• BCSCP certification
• BCNSP certification
• Home infusion experience
• Previous experience in health-system home infusion
• Experience developing, implementing, and improving policies and procedures
• Previous oncology experience
• Previous parenteral nutrition experience
• Working knowledge of parenteral nutrition
• Working knowledge of Epic and/or Brightree

We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment

Rotating shifts and on-call duties: days, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Variable hours. This position will be working in our brand new, state of the art Shared Services Center located in Sacramento, CA. Special protective equipment must be used for required preparation of hazardous substances and spill cleanup. TB test and blood serum sample required annually per The Joint Commission Standards.
