Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Truss Designer for our location in Bakersfield, CA. This role focuses on optimizing and producing accurate roof and floor truss layouts from architectural and structural plans using MiTek software.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create roof and floor truss placement layouts based on architectural drawings, following 84 Lumber design standards.

  • Design trusses using MiTek software, ensuring accuracy, structural integrity, and optimization.

  • Specify all required hardware, beams, and components.

  • Request and follow up on sealed engineering drawings and repair details.

  • Maintain updated job tracking sheets and documentation.

  • Communicate clearly with architects, engineers, customers, and internal teams.

  • Provide customer and sales support when needed.

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure accurate plan logging.

  • Participate in meetings and committees as required.

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience designing trusses using MiTek software.

  • In-depth knowledge of roof and floor truss systems, wood construction, and building materials.

  • Experience with commercial and multi-family projects preferred.

  • Strong blueprint reading and structural visualization skills.

  • Basic CAD knowledge is a plus.

  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

  • Average annual salary: $80K -100K, plus monthly incentives depending on experience and qualifications.

These associates must read architectural prints to create roof and floor truss placement layouts conforming to current 84Components design practices, design of roof and floor trusses in engineering software ensuring designs are accurate, optimized, and conforms to the current P&P, specify all necessary supplied hardware, maintain complete and updated Job Tracking Sheet, send approval letter to customers according to P&P procedures when necessary, provide sales and customer support when necessary, ensure office and plan are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion and all plans are logged properly, and attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested by supervisor(s).
