Job Summary

The UCSF Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Program oversees human subjects-based research operations in ILD, inclusive of both clinical trials and investigator-initiated trials. Dr. Erica Farrand, Assistant Professor of Medicine, is the former co-director of that program and runs an independent research program focused on improving the delivery of high quality safe and effective care in chronic lung diseases.

The Program functions within the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (Erica Farrand), this position will perform independently or with general direction at the fully operational journey level of the series to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols, as directed by the Clinical Research Supervisor and/or Principal Investigator (PI); may coordinate the data collection and operations of several concurrent clinical research studies under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will support the management and coordination of several ongoing studies focused on patient centered and health services delivery outcomes in ILD. The incumbent will oversee data and specimen management; manage and report on study results; create, clean update, and manage research databases and comprehensive data sets; manage the identification, recruitment, enrollment, registration of subjects, administer structured surveys; assist the training of Assistant CRCs, and assist the PI with oversight of other research staff. Additionally the CRC will manage Investigator's protocols in the Committee on Human Research online system, as well as renewals and modifications of protocol applications and the implementation of new studies; participate in the review and writing of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within University compliance; help assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies; oversee study data integrity; implement and maintain periodic quality control procedures; interface with departments to obtain UCSF approval prior to study initiation; maintain all regulatory documents; report study progress to investigators; participate in any internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols; and perform other duties as assigned.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $34.32 - $55.19 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine Program includes the UCSF Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine division (based at the Parnassus and Mt. Zion sites), the Pulmonary and Critical Care divisions of the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center and the San Francisco VA Medical Center, and at UCSF's Mission Bay campus. Each emphasizes different aspects of care for patients with lung disease and lung disease research. The Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine Division in the Department of Medicine have a long history of providing outstanding clinical care, performing innovative research and training academic scientists and physicians. We currently have active, well-funded clinical, translational and basic research programs in lung development, international lung health, pulmonary immunology, genetics of pulmonary and allergic diseases, lung transplantation, microbial pathogenesis, airway diseases, acute lung injury, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary malignancies and pulmonary health disparities. Our large, NIH training grant has been continuously funded since 1966. Nearly a quarter of all academic pulmonologists in the United States have trained at UCSF. This combined unit includes: 7 outpatient clinics, 4 inpatient services, a pulmonary function diagnostic center, 15 independent wet labs, 4 independent research service cores, 6 independent clinical research units, one specialty destination program, and the Nina Ireland Program in Lung Health focusing on philanthropic activities. Required Qualifications

• HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities and/or equivalent training/experience.
• Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.
• Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows.
• Experience with electronic medical records.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians.
• Willingness and interest in working directly with patients with chronic lung disease - will involve working with study subjects who may have high symptom burden, be on supplemental oxygen, and/or hospitalized.
• Demonstrated proficiency with medical record data abstraction and entry into online database
• Physical dexterity needed to train patients in the use of home monitoring devices, including but not limited to spirometers, pulse oximeters, and scales
• Ability to know when a study subject is too sick to complete components of the research visit

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in the usage of Committee of Human Research (CHR) online iMEDris system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols through this system.
• Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation.
• Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and a clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.); knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances, database building/analysis, and data management within some of the following: Access, Stata, SASS/ SPSS, and Teleform programming platforms.
• Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:

4. CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
