Position: Purchasing Specialist
Reports to: Operations Manager
FLSA: Exempt
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Location: Lenexa, KS
Overview:
A global engineered component manufacturer is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Purchasing Specialist. This pivotal role serves as the primary liaison with the suppliers, managing all aspects of product acquisition from initial sourcing and negotiation to ensuring smooth delivery and compliance with international trade regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of procurement processes, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve company objectives and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as the main point of contact and liaison for all supplier-related matters, including issue resolution and relationship management.
* Source new products and identify potential suppliers to meet company needs.
* Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to secure the most favorable agreements.
* Manage the end-to-end purchasing process, from requisition to order placement and delivery follow-up.
* Oversee freight and brokerage activities, ensuring efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods.
* Ensure compliance with all Customs regulations and manage related documentation for imported goods.
* Monitor supplier performance and foster strong, collaborative relationships.
* Resolve issues with suppliers regarding pricing, delivery, quality, and compliance discrepancies.
* Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., production, inventory, finance, logistics) to understand material needs and ensure timely availability.
* Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
* Contribute to cost-reduction initiatives and process improvements within the purchasing function.
* Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
* Associate or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
* Previous work experience in material acquisition.
* Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
* Familiarity with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems is a strong plus.
* Highly motivated and independent professional capable of meeting company objectives.
* Strong understanding of supplier and customer relationships with the ability to collaborate effectively to resolve complex issues.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, handle high-volume workloads, and consistently deliver high-quality results.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Commitment to safety standards and best practices.
