Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator, Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy will be responsible for planning, leading, and implementing special projects within the Government Affairs team. The Program Coordinator provides day-to-day oversight of Government Affairs and creates processes, protocols, metrics, and serves as subject matter expert in Government Affairs. Reports to the System Vice President, Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy and serves to support this individual with executive assistant tasks and project work as necessary. Also, works with individuals and other organizations to plan and implement strategies that further relationships in Government Affairs to support and further the mission of Norton Healthcare. Key Accountabilities:
- Works with System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy to ensure that Norton Healthcare is recognized as a key healthcare policy leader and is sought out for insight into issues involving health care public policy and, as a major employer, is recognized as a responsible community, state and regional leader in applicable public policy issues. Serves as an entry point to Norton Healthcare providing resources and information to governmental entities including testimony for legislative hearings, correspondence to legislators and regulatory comments for federal and state agencies. Works with System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy to plans and lead initiatives and events (i.e. policy conferences and events) to promote Norton Healthcare advocacy agenda.
- Supports System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy to closely monitor activities of executive and legislative branches at the local, state, and federal levels as well as other organizations pertaining to healthcare and other public policies that are particularly relevant to Norton Healthcare (NHC) and keeps appropriate executives fully informed. Assists to establish and maintain relationships within federal, state and local governments and the healthcare community that keep Norton Healthcare aware of external activities which would have impact on or provide opportunities for the organization. Identifies and apprises the System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy of issues that should be raised and/or responded to and the necessary actions to accomplish the organization's goals as relates to public policies. Provides support to System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy for tracking, analysis and reporting of current and emerging health and other public policy issues and legislative and regulatory activities affecting NHC and health care generally. Develops and manages the organization database and action alert system to maximize effectiveness of advocacy initiatives (data base to include key contact info for executive and legislative branches, internal advocacy contact lists, quick alert system, etc.) Maintains resource center of government relations reference materials including directories, periodicals, newsletters and related information.
- Assists System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy to manage strategic and collaborative relationships with assigned outside organizations, including Kentucky Hospital Association, American Hospital Association, Greater Louisville Inc., and other local, state, and/or federal advocacy organizations regarding policy positions, sponsorships, donations, reciprocal agreements, etc. Participates in activities, meetings, events within NHC, etc. as determined by System Vice President of Government Affairs of Health and Public Policy to ensure appropriate monitoring of ongoing events, strategic planning, and operations. Works closely with other key Norton Healthcare executives such as SVP for Communications and Marketing, SVP for Development, SVP for Legal Services and others, as applicable, regarding public relations, communications, and interactions with external constituencies which call for coordinated leadership to achieve organization goals.
- Provides executive and logistical support to the System Vice President of Government Affairs of Public and Health Policy.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3 years direct experience in Government Affairs
- Bachelor's Degree
Desired:
- 5 years direct experience in Government Affairs
