Senior Systems Engineer (Space Force) As a Senior Systems Engineer, you'll support the design, development, integration, and testing of complex systems and networks that support critical defense and secure information operations. You'll work across the entire system development lifecycle to ensure technical excellence and mission success.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Analysis
Active Secret Clearance is required at the time of hire Perform requirements analysis, definition, and management Conduct functional and performance analysis of systems and subsystems Lead or support system design, trade studies, and interface definition Support integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) of system elements Participate in technical planning, including cost, risk, and supportability assessments Execute detailed technical analysis for subsystems or full systems
Customer & Security Focus
Translate customer needs into system requirements and allocate across components Ensure designs meet government security specifications and technical security requirements (e.g., identification, authentication, access control, auditing) Support system accreditation and certification Develop or update system security documentation for both new and fielded systems
Design & Development
Research and evaluate vendor products, COTS/GOTS/GFE/CFE components, and manuals Define and document system specifications, technical interfaces, and platform compatibility Develop complete and complex system frameworks, identifying and resolving design weaknesses
Modeling & Simulation
Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and internal engineering teams Interact with cross-functional project teams throughout the company May lead or mentor junior engineers or team members Plan and execute tasks independently, showing creativity and sound judgment in solutions
Qualifications & Skills
Core Skills & Tools
Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes Experience with systems integration and test (I&T) Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is a plus Working knowledge of network architectures, information systems, and secure system design
Analytical & Decision-Making Skills
Ability to conduct technical trade studies and performance evaluations Demonstrated judgment in selecting engineering methods and tools Skilled in problem-solving and identifying system design improvements
Other Expectations
Work independently with limited oversight Contribute significantly to major programs and projects Drive technical excellence and influence project outcomes Generate high-quality technical engineering documentation
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Agile experience.
- Coordinating external interfaces and ICDs.
- Multi-level security domain expertise (and cross-domain).
- Quickly (with a more agile light-weight approach) decomposing requirements to a level that can avoid requirements bloat (and communicate/track impacts).
- People that may have a working relationship with related people from Iridium, SDA, Northrup, York, and Lockheed.
- System-level networking person that can face off with the GFE WAN provider and coordinate detailed network design.
- Someone that can understand what is in scope and what is out of scope and manage that complexity.
