JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to coordinate and maintain one or more database systems, either mainframe or PC-based, and to ensure accuracy and integrity of data stored in systems.

Working under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Database Analyst (DA) will: maintain the Dallas Heart Study (DHS) database systems and associated data collection systems through ongoing analysis of mainframe, PC, and manual systems; and design/assist with database and related applications. The DA will also extract relevant data from various sources and ensure data capture/integration in the database, and will monitor/enhance database systems to ensure they are updated, tested, developed, and implemented. This person will investigate database network and systems administration hardware/software by utilizing proficiencies in various computer languages (see preferred criteria below) to support DHS research efforts. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working with MS SQL technology.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience:



  • Writing complex code for database access, modification and construction.
  • Working in a research environment.
  • With PL SQL and/or Oracle, in addition to MS SQL technology.
  • Managing data for large longitudinal cohort studies.
  • Drafting and maintaining documentation/user manuals that can be interpreted by multiple stakeholders.
  • Creating websites and end-to-end products.
  • Full stack development and building/testing/maintaining both front-end reporting/data entry tools as well as their supporting back-end databases.
  • Aptitude of learning domain-specific software applications.
  • Designing and maintaining Python-based data quality control pipelines to automate routine checks and ensure data integrity.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree In Business Administration, Health Care Administration, basic science, or computer related field or
    Master's Degree In Computer Science or a related Information Technology field may be considered as a substitution for stated minimum experience.


  • Experience
    2 years Experience in field directly related to type of database maintained, including experience working with and maintaining large complex databases or
    Additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of stated degree requirement on a year for year basis.


JOB DUTIES



  • Maximizes use of automated database systems through on-going analysis of mainframe, PC, and manual systems; trains users in use of automated systems; assists in, or designs, database and related applications; maintains database system and associated data collection systems.

  • Works with system users to make recommendations, receive feedback, and test additions and/or enhancements to automated database systems so that systems are updated, tested, developed, and implemented.
  • Administers and investigates database network and systems administration hardware and software by utilizing proficiencies in various computer languages to support functions of project or department.
  • Investigates and recommends efficient, user-friendly database interface designs for all users by utilizing acquired experience and knowledge of database systems.
  • Proposes policy for relational database table design; works in tandem with scientific/technical community using knowledge of future trends to produce a database that is responsive to user needs.
  • Installs and maintains related database software and hardware systems.
  • Makes recommendations for modifications or additions to personal computer database systems, hardware components, and database software applications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
