Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plumbing systems and related fixtures for water, vent, and drainage systems, as well as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Work includes renovation and upkeep of underground piping, building piping, fixtures, and equipment. Inspects buildings and facilities to identify needed repairs and makes recommendations or follows up with the supervisor as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble,install,andrepairpipes,fittings,andfixturesofgas,heating,water,irrigation and drainage systems
- Workwithplasticandmetalpipes,vents,floorandroofdrains,water,soilandwaste lines
- Maintain,repairandinstallundergroundpipingsystems,buildingpiping,fixtures, building equipment
- Perform pipe and tubingjoining.
- Maintain and service all heating, refrigeration, and ventilation units, including exhaust fans.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of chillers, chilled water distribution systems, boilers, heating distribution systems, and related components.
- Repack and/or replace pump seals, fittings, and valves.
- Maintain plant equipment in accordance with established efficiency and safety standards.
- Establishandmaintainapositiveandcooperativeworkingrelationshipwithmembersof department and campus community
- Maintainsproficiencyatcurrentlevelandcontinuallyupdatesknowledgethrough appropriate courses, seminars, publications and contact with others in the trade
- Effectively perform in a serviceenvironment
- Maintain an acceptable attendance record, punctuality and meetingdeadlines
- Maintain afunctional awareness of the typical hazards of the workplace as well as biohazards that may be encountered at the University
- Responsibleforadheringtopolicies,proceduresandpracticesonsafetyandoperational instructions. Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes
- Operate a light vehicle to transport materials andequipment.
- Perform all aspects of general maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or theequivalent.
- One year of plumbing or HVAC experience is preferred.
- Must be able to obtain a state of New Mexico journeyman plumbing license or state of New Mexico journeymen refrigeration license and EPA refrigerant certification within three years of employment.
- A valid New Mexico Driver's and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all weather and conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skill in maintenance and repair procedures including preventativemaintenance
- Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions
- Knowledge of building codes, rules and regulations as well as ability to understand the University policies and procedures as related to the position
- Ability to move through limited accessspaces
- Ability to observe and practice safe working habits and maintain security of buildings and systems, and effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups
- Abilitytoworkeffectivelyinaservice-orientedenvironmentsubjecttofrequently changing priorities
- Abilitytofollowthroughandcarryoutassignments,problem-solvingskillsandsound judgment
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver tools, materials, and ladders.

Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Strength and Stamina:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders or stairs for extended periods of time.
- Work in awkward or cramped positions for long durations.
Mobility and Dexterity:
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and reaching overhead.
- Use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, crawl spaces, or mechanical rooms.
Endurance and Environmental Tolerance:
- Perform physical tasks in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Tolerance to work in dusty, dirty, and noisy environments, sometimes with strong odors.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hats, and respirators when required.
Vision and Hearing:
- Sufficient visual acuity to read blueprints, gauges, and safety labels.
- Adequate hearing to detect equipment malfunctions or hear verbal instructions and alarms.
