Performs work to assist in the organization and implementation of projects and programs. Responsibilities include activities which require knowledge of departmental procedures. Employee performance is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

About the Department and/or College

Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries' system comprises: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library,(3) Architecture Library, and (4) Peters Family Legacy Library within the Student Enrichment Center. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

Major/Essential Functions

Join our dynamic Donor Relations and Communications & Marketing team as an intern and gain real-world experience in nonprofit communications, digital and print marketing, and donor engagement.

We seek a motivated and detail-oriented intern eager to grow professionally while contributing to meaningful projects. This hands-on role offers the chance to develop your writing skills, expand your portfolio, and explore how strategic communication supports mission-driven goals. This internship is a great opportunity to sharpen your writing, grow your portfolio, and learn how strategic communication impacts organizational goals.

Internship course credit may be available depending on your college or department policies and faculty approval.

Donor Communications & Gratitude

  • Craft heartfelt thank-you letters (handwritten, typed, and computer-generated) to express appreciation to donors.
  • Help produce compelling thank-you videos showcasing the impact of donor contributions on the University Libraries and Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library.
  • Utilize storytelling techniques to highlight the transformative role of philanthropy.
Creative Content Production
  • Develop written articles, videos, photographs, and graphics for fall and spring newsletters.
  • Contribute to the creation of engaging website content that reflects donor impact and library initiatives.
  • Collaborate on the conceptualization and creation of digital and print marketing materials, including advertisements and social media content.
Donor Engagement & Research
  • Assist in maintaining and updating donor databases and communication logs with a strong focus on accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Conduct background research to inform donor engagement strategies and personalized storytelling.
Marketing & Public Outreach
  • Support the development and scheduling of content across social media platforms.
  • Monitor and report engagement metrics across email campaigns, social media, and websites.
  • Participate in public relations and outreach events to engage with target audiences and promote positive messaging.
Team Collaboration
  • Attend and contribute to Development and Communications & Marketing team meetings.
  • Provide insights from a student perspective on messaging, promotional materials, and donor communications.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent. No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with attention to tone and audience.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) and scheduling tools.
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
