Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Division of Student Success is dedicated to partnering with the UNCG community to provide high-quality services that support the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student population. Our mission is to offer leadership, service, and transitional support throughout the student journey, from day one to diploma. We are committed to designing and delivering services that foster student success at every stage. The Division encompasses several key offices, including Student Success Initiatives, New Student Transitions & First-Year Experience, Students First Office, Transfer Initiatives, Academic Achievement Center, TRiO Programs, UNCG Guarantee, Spartans Thrive, and the Communication Lab.

As part of the Division of Student Success, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience ( NST& FYE) is committed to providing a comprehensive and collaborative approach to ensure the success and retention of our new students. NST & FYE helps new students and their families navigate the transition to college by connecting them to the people, programs, and resources at UNC Greensboro which provide a solid foundation for student success. NST & FYE offers a range of programs and resources for new students delivered through orientation programs, transition courses, shared learning experiences, and peer support. Drawing from extensive knowledge about the first year experience, NST & FYE educates the campus community about the unique and evolving needs of our new students and their families in order for all of us to provide optimum support inside and outside the classroom.
Position Summary
The UNCG Guarantee Program supports high-achieving scholarship recipients with financial need by fostering their academic and personal success through academic and co-curriculuar initiatives. Reporting directly to the Senior Director for First Year Student Engagement and Experience, the Assistant Director plays a key role in identifying student needs and implementing initiatives to enhance academic success, retention, and degree completion. Key responsibilities include program development, promotion and evaluation; student support, collaboration with campus partners, and administrative and outreach activities.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Public Health or related field from an accredited four-year college
  • a minimum of 1 year of experience contributing to student success initiatives in a higher education setting; or 2-years graduate assistantship experience in higher education
  • Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of academic disciplines and administrative units
  • Strong organization skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, establish work priorities, respond to unanticipated student or faculty needs, and work well as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products especially Teams, OneDrive and Sharepoint
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Chrome River, SpartanMart, Microsoft Teams and programs to support developing social media
  • Experience in developing and implementing programs in support of student transition, success, and retention.
  • Experience developing and supporting student leaders and the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate training for student staff.
