As a General Machinist III in our Middletown, CT, facility, you will be responsible for the manufacture of close tolerance piece parts, using a variety of manual and/or CNC machining equipment, while employing 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles in everyday work practices.

Responsibilities:




  • Work under the direction of the Group Leader or Supervisor with little supervision, specify exact tolerances and finish specifications to perform diversified machining operations. Employ 5S and Lean Manufacturing skills in every day work practices.


  • Use blueprint, schematics, written and verbal directions, shop policies and quality standards to obtain required contours, dimensions and finish specifications. Calibrate and modify operational sequences to adjust speed of machining and frequency of cuts.


  • Set up computer programming to perform machining sequences. Operate, edit and adjust a variety of CNC and manual machines. Edit and check programming of machines. Determine operational or tooling sequence. Select feeds, speeds and tooling. Hold close and exacting tolerances.
  • Perform general shop work such as deburring, machine repair and maintenance duties.
  • Use safety standards as a guideline to perform machine maintenance and maintain a clean an orderly work area.
  • Inspect own work using functional gages and inspection equipment to maintain maximum quality. Inspect production work as often as necessary in order to maintain maximum quality standards and to prevent scrap work and minimal rework. Must be OAP (Operator Acceptance Program) certified to inspect own work using various hand tools and measuring instruments in order to maximize quality. Assist in training new employees. Report defective material and other unusual condition or circumstance to supervisor.


Qualifications:



  • Use of elementary geometry, algebra and trigonometric principles together with the use of drawings, specifications, charts and tables. Ability to use various types of precision measuring tools and instruments. Familiarity with shop practices, inspection and safety.
  • Over 3 years up to and including 5 years' experience, to qualify.
  • Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform activities, and make decisions as to the sequence of setups, operations and processes within standardized limitations. Make decisions on the fixtures to be used, cutting tools, inspection equipment needed and how to set up machines to perform operations.
  • Moderate physical effort consisting of frequently {90%) lifting or moving average weight (over 25 lbs and up to 60 lbs) material.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention: usually diversified operations requiring constant alertness or activity.
