NURSING INTERN - ORTHOPEDIC SPINE UNIT - CONTINGENT / PRN - DAY SHIFT

Shift: Days, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Three 12-hour shifts per 6-week scheduling period, or based on unit practice

GENERAL SUMMARY

Unit Description:

7 North is a 33-bed unit consisting of orthopedic & neurosurgery patients. We also take overflow med/surg patients as well as some telemetry patients. Our shifts are from 7am-7:30pm & 7pm-7:30am. Our unit is fast paced, typically consisting of 7-8 RN's and 3 PCTs daily, and we typically see anywhere from 3 to 12 surgeries on a daily basis where we handle the postoperative care.

• Under the supervision of a nurse, provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
• Completes assigned nursing orders as directed by preceptor, including assisting patient with activities of daily living and taking vital signs.
• Observes patient status and responses.
• Documents and reports observations to preceptor or other appropriate staff.
• Assists preceptor with development of care plan by reporting test results and patient observations.
• Performs other tasks as assigned, including environmental services and preparing/transporting patients for diagnostic services.
