The Director, IT - SAP will be responsible for ERP (SAP) development, configuration & support for Builders FirstSource (BFS). This role executes transparent IT processes for full solution lifecycle and drives continuous improvement in solution performance, reliability, compliance, and efficiency. Proactively drives solution usage and simplification with IT business partners. Strategically develops and executes solution roadmap that aligns to business strategy and measurably drives business KPIs. Consistently develops expertise in business processes and enabling technologies.

BFS has initiated a multi-year, multi-million-dollar transformation program with SAP Implementation at the core of this initiative. This role will be responsible for working with a System Integrator (SI) as well as internal teams (business & IT) to ensure the development of all business requirements as outlined in the design phase. The individual will also be responsible for driving changes on legacy platforms as well as integration platforms that assures a successful transition from legacy applications to SAP over a period without any business operations disruptions. During this transition, this role will manage multiple teams using various technical stacks and development approaches. These teams will include system architects, developer engineers, testers, and high-tier software support engineers, and this role may additionally directly supervise - or have substantial supervisory or technical input to - analysts, DBAs, system administrators, infrastructure engineers, and contractors performing a variety of functions in support of this program.

An ideal candidate for this role must have demonstrated experience and success in managing the development of a large legacy system (experience with SAP S4/Hana is highly desirable) with a sizable and diverse user base, and with aggressive RPO/RTO, security, compliance, and performance requirements. After the go-live of SAP, this role will lead SAP COE for BFS, overseeing design, development, testing, integration, and implementation of future enhancements/projects as well as support the platform.

The individual will be accountable for the overall health and optimization of the SAP HANA RISE environment, ensuring it meets business needs for performance, scalability, and security. This includes leading lifecycle management and collaborating with partners to implement best practices for system reliability and compliance.

As a member of the Senior IT teams, this role will set the appropriate tone at the top. The position requires a leader who leads by example, is competent, confident, perseverance, inspirational, influencing, disciplined and dependable. In addition, this individual needs to be highly collaborative, a strong communicator and continuous improvement minded. The ability to deliver tactical projects while anticipating issues and thinking strategically is required.

The position requires a demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio of requests, quickly mediate between competing priorities, and work effectively with IT colleagues, contractors, and business management both within and across reporting relationships, lines of businesses and markets.

Finally, this role is responsible for the management, development, and engagement of its people, including the hiring of staff, their instruction, coaching and evaluation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SAP Environment / Platform Management



  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the SAP HANA RISE environment, including planning and execution of system upgrades, refreshes, and patching activities.
  • Collaborate with hosting partners and SAP to ensure optimal system performance, availability, and scalability of the RISE landscape.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for change management, transport management, and system monitoring in the RISE environment.
  • Lead lifecycle management activities for the RISE platform to ensure compliance, performance, and security standards are consistently met.



Application Strategy & Application Portfolio Management

Work with IT business partners as well as external partners to create and evolve the IT application strategy for SAP/ERP platform. Ensures continuous advancement of business capabilities while simplifying the landscape over time. Manage a portfolio of current, compliant, supported applications the business can rely on.

Application Development "BUILD"

Lead the technical design, development, configuration, testing and implementation of IT applications with main application being SAP S4/HANA through operating a metrics-based management system, ensuring utilization of solution development lifecycle management processes. Provide internal and external staffing to meet the needs of the approved project portfolio and planned application enhancements.





    • Provide work effort and cost estimates to IT Business Partners, and PMO teams as requested.
    • Participate in solution ideation, high-level planning and participate in trade-off or prioritization efforts.
    • Responsible for management of all internal and external 3rd party development and configuration of IT systems for ERP/SAP platform
    • Responsible for qualification, selection, and commercial agreements with external solution delivery parties.
    • Work in collaboration with other IT delivery teams to ensure compatibility with designs and consistent delivery practices.
    • Ensure design and delivery of solutions compliant with IT General Controls and SOX.
    • Responsible for overall quality of solution delivery and successful cutover and launch activities.




Application Support "RUN"

Provide reliable L3 application support services for the ERP platform. Responsible for all internal and external managed service support in area of responsibility, ensuring delivery to SLAs and contract. Hold team members accountable for proper, timely support of systems and restoration of service. Lead root cause analysis of failures and ensure implementation of permanent corrective actions. Track and report out on application support metrics and key outages.





    • Provide support services tailored to the needs of the business with special focus on field locations.
    • Establish and manage external RUN operations using preferred providers and specific SLAs.
    • Accountable for incident response and resolution.
    • Escalation point for Priority 1 Major Incident Management processes for the application in his/her portfolio.
    • Challenge on-going RUN costs to find reduction opportunities on an annualized basis.
    • Continuously analyze support incidents and recurring problems to recommend and implement corrective actions.
    • Responsible for providing transparent measures and KPIs for key platforms to the business relationship team and IT executive leadership.
    • Responsible for participation in Enterprise-wide application RUN improvements and Major Incident Management processes.
    • Responsible for long-term care and feeding of all in-scope applications. Establishment of health measurements and investment proposals to prevent inadvertent aging or failures.
    • Responsible for annual IT SOX self-testing and remediation efforts for in-scope applications




Team Management

Responsible for the hiring and professional development of staff. Selects, develops, coaches, and reviews associates/employees and contingent workers. Conducts interviews, individual performance and development planning performance reviews, other supervisory interactions and proposes salary increases.

Strategy Development



  • Fulfill a leadership role in IT strategic initiatives including developing and implementing IT strategic roadmaps aligned with business strategy, expanding organizational capacity to execute on IT strategies; identifying emerging trends and disruptive technologies to introduce to BFS.



Departmental



  • Research and recommend system development priorities, project estimations, resolves procedural problems, assists with formulating departmental policy and procedures, recommends new or revised standards, procedures, and policies around areas of responsibility.
  • Participate in forecasting and long-term planning, implements long-term plans, uses non-traditional/creative approaches to problem-solving, recommends new or revised standards, policies, etc. in areas of responsibilities.
  • Participate in creating department budget and quarterly forecasts. Responsible for consulting, salary, travel, and training budgets in designated areas of responsibility.
  • Remain knowledgeable of information technology process and sponsor improvements. Act as a link between information technology and the business user community.
  • Contribute to and sponsor efforts to drive improvements in employee engagement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises assigned employees both on site and remotely located, including staff selection and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



  • BS Degree in Information Technology or similar field. MS Degree or MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years' experience defining, implementing, and supporting Information Technology systems with an emphasis on manufacturing & distribution processes.
  • 10+ years leadership experience managing technical delivery teams.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing and supporting SAP ERP in a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing & distribution company. 2-3 SAP ERP implementation cycles are highly preferred.



COMPETENCIES



  • Experience supporting applications in a 24x7x365 manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Vendor Management for both product and service vendors
  • Experience delivering within structured Project Management methodologies in both waterfall and agile environments.
  • Experience leading individual programs greater than $20M in size.
  • Experience with managing in-house and contract staff; experience managing offshore contract and nearshore captive centers.
  • Experience negotiating managed service and fixed-price delivery contracts.
  • Action oriented, with the ability to understand and willingness to get into systems development details when warranted. "Do what it takes" attitude.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to convert business needs into system requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated IT leadership skills with a proven record of accomplishment of success.
  • Willingness to travel to support job responsibilities as required. (Approx. 10%)

In addition to the base wage listed, this position is also eligible to earn an annual bonus subject to changes in plan design and documents and in accordance with applicable law.
