Job Description

Summary

The Data Systems Strategist maintains, configures and manages housing software solutions and virtual components. The Data Systems Strategist manages and analyzes, student and residence hall data and develops reports that allow MU Housing leadership to make decisions related to capacity and occupancy. The Data Systems Strategist monitors performance of, identifies improvements for and diagnoses/resolves problems with housing software quickly to limit disruptions for others in the department.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze and summarize student and residence hall data, and assist with interpretation of the results. Audit and "clean" data by reviewing soft data reports, print-outs and performance indicators to locate and correct coding or user errors.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of data from primary and secondary data sources. Maintain databases/data systems while providing quality assurance.
  • Develop, generate and maintain reports/analysis from single or multiple systems.
  • Set-up, maintain, test and reliably operate software systems and server for accurate student records, billing and room assignments.
  • Coordinate various web app designs and data transfer to/from housing software with campus colleagues.
  • Serve as the functional lead for the department's data in the campus student information system (myZou) and e-commerce transaction system (TouchNet) in coordination with campus and UM System colleagues.
  • Provide technical expertise on data storage structure, data mining and data cleaning, in part by monitoring system performance and maintaining systems per requirements.
  • Identify, analyze and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets.
  • Prioritize business and information needs according to department leadership needs.
  • Process department billing of housing charges prior to the start of each semester.
  • Work with the Assistant Director - Occupancy Management to create appointment time slots in the housing portal software.
  • Administrate and serve as a functional lead for the housing software used to manage assignments, contracts, terms and billing for up to 6500 students.
  • Apply charges and credits for housing contracts, assignment changes, damages, lock-outs, etc. Work with Data Management Coordinator to understand daily operating rates.
  • Work with the Assistant Director - Occupancy Management to develop reports and dashboards to aid staff and to build/review processes in the housing portal for staff and students.
  • Verify and maintain data in software systems and various reports/rosters for internal and external use in conjunction with the Assistant Director - Occupancy Management.
  • Continually evaluate current business procedures as practices and processes develop or change. Design or update business procedures as needed.
  • Attend all meetings and training as required.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve and maintain our departmental and Student Affairs mission.

Shift

Average number of hours per week: 40, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in systems administration, systems design, data reporting or data analysis
  • Master's degree or graduate-level coursework in a computer-related discipline
  • Experience with HTML and PHP programming
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases and programming
  • Work experience in technical support/help desk operations
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders (professional staff, student staff, students, families, campus partners, etc.)
  • Ability to learn technical aspects of the position and willing to maintain awareness as technological changes occur.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Range: $52,915.20 - $78,000 per year; paid on a monthly basis.
