Job Description

Do you believe stories can change lives - human and animal alike? At the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, we're inspired every day by the powerful bond between people and the animals they love. To help tell those stories, we're looking for a strategic communicator to share the heart behind the science: the breakthroughs, the student journeys, the lives saved, and the lasting impact our college has on communities near and far.

As a Content Strategist, you won't just write - you'll shape the narratives that define who we are. You'll lead storytelling initiatives that inform and inspire, align messaging across platforms and help elevate the visibility of a veterinary college that's changing the world through education, research, clinical care and compassion.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead content strategy for key initiatives and recurring storytelling series, ensuring alignment with college and university branding, messaging and priorities.
  • Plan and create compelling content across multiple formats including feature stories, social media, email newsletters, speeches, presentations, video scripts and more.
  • Identify and develop media-worthy stories; partner with campus communicators to pitch and promote content that elevates the college's visibility.
  • Contribute to the strategy, structure, and storytelling of the college's websites, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, aligned with key messaging and optimized for target audiences.
  • Collaborate with the team on basic graphic design needs including social media graphics, digital signage and marketing collateral.
  • Provide communications guidance to faculty and staff across departments, ensuring consistent, effective messaging aligned with strategic goals.
  • Use analytics and performance data to inform content development and improve audience engagement.
  • Mentor and support junior team members in content development and social media best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Simply put, our mission is to Teach, Heal, Discover, and Serve.

Shift

Hours will generally be Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some evening or weekends hours may be needed on occasion.

Successful Candidates will have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a strategic communication role, preferably in higher education, nonprofit, or health care settings.
  • Demonstrated experience developing multi-channel content strategies and managing messaging across platforms.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor content to varied audiences and formats.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and performance-driven storytelling.
  • Ability to collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.

What we're looking for:

  • A proactive communicator who can spot a story, think beyond a single post and help shape public perception.
  • A strategic thinker who understands brand voice, audience segmentation and the power of consistent messaging.
  • A trusted teammate with excellent judgment, creative instincts and a collaborative spirit.
