The Director Campus Accounting directs the accounting functions at campuses and centralized services. Responsible for leading the design, implementation, testing and continuous improvement of business and accounting processes, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, for campus locations.

Responsibilities

Financial Management and Compliance
    Monthly Close Process: Lead the preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses. Ensure revenue is recorded in accordance with ASC 606. Complete equitization and elimination for consolidation.
  • Campus Accounting: Direct functions such as variance review, budgets, forecasts, and audit preparation. Implement consistent practices across campus locations.
  • Compliance: Recommend policies and procedures impacting the organization. Ensure compliance with SOX and SEC requirements. Support annual and quarterly audits, and remediation efforts for compliance issues.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Centralized Team Leadership: Lead the campus accounting team, ensuring consistent practices among locations. Serve as backfill for open positions and provide additional support during the monthly close process.
  • Staff Management: Monitor organizational needs, manage staffing, training, and performance. Establish a high-performance team through effective training, performance management, and career development activities. Recognize and reward employee contributions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Campus Presidents and executive management to support new programs, campus operations, and company growth initiatives. Train new staff at new campus locations and integrate accounting functions from business acquisitions.
Process Optimization and Strategic Projects
  • Process Improvement: Manage special projects focused on optimizing processes company-wide. Regularly evaluate, refine, and document processes, policies, and procedures to align with best practices and evolving technology landscapes.
  • Documentation and Testing: Prepare monthly Management Business Review reports and support schedules. Perform system testing, spreadsheet testing, access reviews, and reconciliation reviews.
  • Strategic Support: Provide operational accounting guidance to executive management, including the CFO and EVP of Operations. Support the closure of campus locations by transitioning responsibilities from departing staff.


Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA/CMA/CIA strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 8 - 10 years of accounting experience, public company experience preferred
Technical and Regulatory Expertise
  • GAAP & SOX Knowledge: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and general ledger accounting systems (PeopleSoft preferred).
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to identify and resolve problems effectively.
Leadership and Communication
  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead geographically distributed teams within a matrix leadership structure.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of giving clear directions and managing diverse personalities and skill levels.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to quickly assess situations and lead teams to logical, sound business decisions.
Operational Efficiency and Customer Focus
  • Process Efficiency: Strong understanding of business drivers and keys to efficient and effective processes.
  • Customer Service: Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Professionalism: Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional decorum. Adaptable to fast-paced environments and capable of meeting deadlines. Willingness to travel up to 25% overnight.
