The Bureau of Driver Licensing within the Department of Transportation is seeking to fill the position of Clerical Assistant 3 in Dauphin County. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing all incoming medical reports submitted by physicians, law enforcement agencies, and concerned citizens. You will evaluate the information against our established regulations and statutes, making independent decisions regarding the necessary actions to be taken. Utilizing a PC-based imaging system, you will process medical reports, creating individual cases for each driver. This may involve conducting medical research through the internet and other resources to ensure accurate assessments. You will also correspond with drivers who have active records using word processing software, and review and process all returned medical forms, making decisions in accordance with established policies and interpretations of existing regulations. Additionally, you will have the authority to approve or disqualify drivers for special medical waivers and handle various driver licensing forms and applications, including renewals, permits, extensions, and identification cards, while calculating all associated processing fees. Your responsibilities will also include answering incoming telephone calls and initiating calls to physicians and other medical personnel to obtain necessary clarifications regarding reports received by the Department. You will reach out to lawyers, legislative offices, messengers, exam centers, and drivers as needed. Furthermore, you will research and resolve discrepancies in medical records, as well as address any errors made by the Bureau related to medical cases. You will be tasked with adding or deleting medical restrictions based on the information received, sorting and opening all mail, and preparing daily production reports. Maintaining the paper stock and toner in all printing equipment will also be part of your duties. You will assist your supervisor in developing procedures aimed at minimizing customer inconvenience during system issues and will be required to gather documentation when reporting such problems. Compliance with the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy is essential, and you will be responsible for ensuring that the correct fee waiver code is utilized and properly documented whenever a fee waiver is applied. - Full-time employment, 75 hours bi-weekly
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch, with rotating Saturdays.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
