Position Overview
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing purchasing operations, managing supplier performance, and ensuring the timely delivery of materials. This role collaborates closely with operations, buyers, and vendors to ensure accurate data, cost-effective decisions, and continuous improvement in procurement performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships, including negotiating contracts and pricing
- Research and evaluate current vendors and potential new suppliers
- Analyze market trends to forecast pricing and availability
- Review and analyze blanket orders and provide insights to the buyer
- Review open order reports and communicate potential delays to operations
- Maintain accurate inventory data and update purchasing parameters based on market trends
- Expedite critical components that may impact production timelines
- Monitor supplier delays and coordinate alternative sourcing or expediting options
- Track and report purchase order status and investigate late deliveries
- Schedule recurring supplier meetings to review open orders
- Review and negotiate new supplier quotes, finalize pricing agreements, and manage terms
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain Vendor Issue Log
- Issue scorecards and corrective actions to underperforming suppliers
- Develop sourcing strategies based on raw material market trends
- Collaborate with the senior purchasing team to improve vendor selection and cost controls
Required Qualifications
- Strong negotiation, decision-making, and organizational skills
- Proven understanding of purchasing and planning operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Pareto Charts for procurement analysis
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Epicor Kinetic
- Background in purchasing or planning within a manufacturing environment
