Job Description Summary

The Safety & Health Manager, Growth & Development is primarily responsible for leading Safety & Health alignment of new locations through Greenfield and acquisition growth. This role will also help maintain and prioritize S&H standards development for internal and external customers. As part of the S&H Team, this position will work collaboratively with the S&H team as well as Leadership to support alignment during growth. This position will require 50+% travel, with international travel.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of safety standards and programs at new or developing branch locations including Greenfields, acquisitions, and/or Mega projects.

  • Aligning Greenfield, acquisition, and new onsite stakeholders such as Branch Manager, District/Regional Manager, Regional VP, Business Development Manager, and Regional Safety Managers on S&H integration plans for each new branch.

  • Overseeing integration of the Sunbelt Rentals safety (Engage for Life) at Greenfields, acquisitions, and onsite branches, which may comprise of check-in calls, compliance audits, and visits to branches.

  • Responsible for implementing a learning plan for new locations that includes core S&H processes

  • Assists the SVP and VP of Business Development in the due diligence process for prospective acquisitions, including but not limited to, reviewing insurance records, previous incident records, regulatory violations history, and safety training programs.

  • Supports & performs branch safety compliance evaluations at acquisitions utilizing dedicated audit criteria including employee training, facility regulatory compliance, vehicle fleet / DOT compliance, shop and equipment rental fleet compliance.

  • Identifies deficiencies found during inspections; provides written evaluation of inspection with corrective action requirements; assists Branch Manager & Regional Leadership in mandating time for completion of corrective actions.

  • Provides training and guidance to Safety Coordinators and Branch Leadership in Greenfields, acquisitions, or new on-site locations to ensure a consistent approach is taken regarding the integration of policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for working with the Business Development Managers on ongoing program improvements, S&H education, and organization of S&H support with Regional Safety Leadership.

  • Responsible for communication with the S&H Leadership Team, Regional S&H Managers, and/or Safety Specialists with up to date information on acquisition closing schedules, Greenfield opening dates, and launch of on-site locations.

  • Leads the Sunbelt Rentals program for development of Early Career Professionals, including managing the Internship Program, Individual Development Plans, and assisting in the recruitment of prospective Safety and Health Professionals as required.

  • Leads quarterly safety meetings with the Business Development team.

  • Supports the Regional Safety Managers in the investigation of all incidents and appropriate near-misses regarding Greenfields, acquisitions, and onsite locations and apply learning outcomes to better improve processes.

  • Supports the Sales team in the bidding process, onsite set-up, and implementation of safety programs at Mega-Projects.

  • Supports the Amazon partnership which includes but not limited to; management of the Avetta platform, assisting local operations in the development of site safety surveys and analysis, field support during onsite projects, and presentations to the Amazon leadership team on Sunbelt continuing safety improvements.

  • Supports the Sr. Director of S&H Operations in field safety initiatives which include, but not limited to, development of programs, training, and video production.

  • Maintains relationships with field-based S&H personnel to support any needs related to Growth & Development of safety programs or physical locations

Requirements: Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of 7 years working with Safety, Health and Environmental Management Systems (10 years preferred) and implementation of safety programs.

  • Preferred Safety Certification - CSP, OHST, CHST, SMS, GSP

  • Preferred experience with the new development of safety programs where previous culture did not exist.

  • Good written and verbal skills when addressing either individuals or groups.

  • Ability to present information in classroom or conference call settings.

  • Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan that includes measurable goals based on leading and lagging indicator performance.

  • An observable positive attitude/Customer-service oriented

  • Ability to track and trend performance of multiple locations based on incident data obtained through internal tracking mechanisms.

  • Dependable, motivated, and highly-organized self-starter

  • Ability and willingness to travel; overnight travel required

  • A general overview of OSHA construction and general industry regulation knowledge

  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety

  • An ability to foster credibility with Branch Supervisors, and Safety Coordinators

  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

Physical Demands:

Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job. Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work. All duties must be performed according to Sunbelt's safety policies and guidelines. Reasonable accommodations may be made to comply with ADA/ADAAA.

Base Pay Range: $96,640.00 - 132,880.00

You will become eligible for benefits on the first of the month following 30 days from your start date. Sunbelt offers team members the following time off from work, subject to Sunbelt's policies: twelve to twenty-five vacation days depending on years of service; five sick days; six paid holidays, two paid half day holidays, two floating holidays, one inclusion day, and one volunteer day (unless specified in a collective bargaining agreement).
