POSITION TITLE: Swim Coach DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii) SUPERVISOR: Aquatic Manager FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Hourly POSITION SUMMARY: Swim Coach is a team leader who motivates, teaches, and inspires adult swimmers (fitness, triathlete, competitive, and non-competitive) who are dedicated to improving their fitness through swimming; enforce Kroc Center Hawaii guidelines, pool and safety rules and Kroc Center Hawaii policies to maintain a safe environment and member and guest satisfaction. Swim Coach will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The candidate chosen for this position will have the ability to remain in the water ranging from 80-90 degrees for the duration of swim lessons (1-4 hours); support child weight in the water; recognize distressed swimmers and those needing assistance and provide the necessary aid and able to communicate verbally and loudly across distances. May also be required to run, swim, paddle and walk long distances; stand and sit for long periods; uses hand to finger, handle, feel or operate lifesaving equipment. The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends, holidays, and evenings. DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee regularly works under outdoor weather conditions, is routinely exposed to the sun, may be exposed to extreme heat; works on uneven and/or slippery surfaces and is periodically exposed to hazardous conditions/situations. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more. EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Kick boards, swim buoys, hand paddles, swim noodles and associated swimming toy, and moving swimming teaching platform. CERTIFICATES & LICENSES American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate USA Master or USA Coach Certification American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation. On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program. CLEARANCES: The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment.
