Job Summary

The Senior Director, Therapeutic Area Analytics & Insights - Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) at Genentech is a visionary leader responsible for setting the strategic direction of analytics across Therapeutic Areas in Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG). This role guides a multidisciplinary team of experts, leveraging core capabilities such as Market Research, Forecasting, Competitive Intelligence, Access, Data Analytics, Digital Measurement, Customer Insights, and Business Development. As a key advisor to the Senior Leaders, the Senior Director partners with senior cross-functional teams to shape long-term strategies, identify business development opportunities, drive data-informed decisions, and influence organizational outcomes related to revenue, investment, competitive strategy, and customer experience for in-line, pipeline, and business development assets in the Therapeutic Area. This position champions innovation, prioritizes portfolio initiatives, and ensures that customized business needs are balanced with scalable, standardized solutions across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Decision Support

  • Act as a senior advisor and thought partner to Genentech's leadership across Commercial, Medical, Access, GPS, and Partnering, shaping strategic decisions through integrated analytics and insights.

  • Serve as a key member of the CVRM Squad, driving therapeutic area vision and strategic planning across the different Disease Areas within the CVRM Squad, translating TA vision into execution plans that align to Squad's short- and long-term priorities.

  • Lead prioritization efforts across therapeutic areas and functional capabilities within the CVRM team, focusing resources on high-impact areas aligned with TA and commercial objectives.

  • Influence portfolio, pipeline, and business development decisions, ensuring US needs are represented in global and partnering discussions, and bridging across US and global efforts to harmonize business development and pipeline assessment efforts.

2. Insights & Analytics Excellence

  • Oversee delivery of impactful analytics and insights across forecasting, market research, competitive intelligence, secondary data, digital measurement and customer access.

  • Evolve and embed advanced capabilities in all relevant functional capabilities, ensuring methodological rigor and compliance with legal and privacy standards.

  • Partner with the Squad, product owners, and activation leads to champion adoption of analytics and AI/ML powered products and embedment into workflows and decision-making processes.

  • Shape new capabilities and methodologies that elevate analytical insights generation and drive enterprise-wide standardization and automation where feasible.

3. Organizational & Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team across Market Research, Forecasting, Competitive Intelligence, Access, Data Analytics, Digital Measurement, Customer Insights, and Business Development capabilities.

  • Coach and empower team members to become effective thought partners while fostering an inclusive, outcomes-driven culture.

  • Manage dynamic resourcing needs and talent flow, including offshoring, to maximize organizational agility and expertise.

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external governance standards, maintaining Genentech's license to operate.

4. Portfolio Enablement & Operational Excellence

  • Enable execution of strategic TA and portfolio-level initiatives by aligning analytics support with therapeutic area specific business needs and organizational priorities.

  • Monitor external trends and internal business signals to proactively shape future analytics priorities.

  • Continuously improve operational efficiency, budget discipline, and analytical insight delivery effectiveness across the functional capabilities.

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • 10 years work experience, including 7 years in Pharma, Management Consulting, or Analytical Insights.

  • 6 years leading, coaching or mentoring talent.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence senior leaders

  • Strong results orientation and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and manage and inspire change.

  • Experience managing budgets and resources to drive business growth and innovation.

  • Expert knowledge and deep understanding of therapeutic area dynamics in a primary care space and how to apply analytical capabilities to drive that Therapeutic Area business..

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience:

  • Preferred degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Computer or Physical Sciences or related field.

  • MBA/graduate degree preferred.

  • Expertise in cardiometabolic and renal diseases, with experience in heart failure, chronic kidney disease, chronic weight management and/or diabetes management.

  • Familiarity with the integrated care models, therapeutic strategies, and comorbidity considerations across the CVRM spectrum.

  • Proven track record of leadership, time-management, project management, and teamwork.

  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience synthesizing concise summaries focused on the key insights that inform business decisions.

  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty in a highly-matrixed organization.

  • Strong results orientation and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exposure to pharmaceutical product development and/or commercialization.

  • Experience in customer and/or competitive insights, including designing and fielding qualitative and quantitative primary market research plans and guiding strategies across commercial teams.

  • Experience in business development and guiding strategies and influencing investment decisions across pipeline development in alignment with Global partnership.

  • Leverage strong proficiency in data analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Python, R, SQL) to explore large datasets, identify key insights, and build compelling data-driven narratives

  • Experience with revenue forecasting, including patient-flow methods, patient funnels, account-based forecasting, trend-based forecasting (short and long-term), statistical methods, and uncertainty analysis.

  • Experience solving access issues across a wide range of products, therapeutic areas, and challenges, with limited guidance, insights, or resources.

  • Able to design and conduct digital analytics/measurements.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $210,350 - 390,650 Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
