The Health Promotion Center (HPC) at Southern Jamaica Plain Community Health Center (SJPCHC) is dedicated to addressing food access as an essential part of healthcare. Licensed under Brigham and Women's Hospital, HPC works to create equitable access to fresh, healthy food for patients and community members in our priority neighborhoods: Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Dorchester.
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Food Access Coordinator manages food distribution programs located in the Health Promotion Center (10B Green St., Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130).
HS Diploma or equivalent required, associate degree preferred.

Principal Duties and responsibilities

  • Receive, move, sort, and distribute donated food from a variety of community partners
  • Recruit and manage volunteers
  • Develop systems for streamlining food and composting process
  • Manage budget for food programs
  • Manage and reports on grant
  • Collaborate with other food justice organizations in Boston
  • Maintain excellent relationships with team and community members access food so that process is clear, fair, respectful, and joyful

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lb boxes from one place to another over a period of 30 minutes
  • Must be able to bend over, twist body and squat while carrying heavy box
  • Able to print distribution lists from computer and document numbers of community members receiving food

Skills and abilities required

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish(strongly preferred)
  • Excellent communication, ability to work with a team and integrate new team members quickly so they feel engaged and connected
  • Ability to speak up when something is not working
  • Ability to regulate and help others regulate in stressful situations
  • Clear understanding of food inequity in Boston and beyond with a focus on the problem with unfair systems and not the people who need the service
  • Great sense of humor, passion for the power of community and ability to jump in
  • Extremely well-organized and can juggle multiple tasks at once
