Our client is a leading U.S.-based energy company focused on the development and operation of power generation and transmission infrastructure. They are actively expanding their portfolio with a focus on regulatory compliance, sustainability, and responsible energy delivery across electric, gas, and renewable sectors. Position Overview:
The Permitting Specialist will support energy infrastructure projects by securing all required permits and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations at the municipal, state, and federal levels. This role requires experience working with permitting authorities and regulatory agencies to keep projects on schedule and within compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities:
Review project scopes to identify applicable permitting needs including, but not limited to, building permits, variances, special use permits, stream and wetland permits, coastal development, FAA, DOT, and other agency-specific approvals.
Lead or coordinate the development and submission of environmental permit applications.
Track permitting timelines and deliverables, identify risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
Ensure project compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Participate in cross-functional project teams, contributing to planning and execution phases.
Represent the company in meetings with public agencies, regulators, and community stakeholders.
Review and interpret proposed environmental legislation and regulations for operational impacts.
Manage or oversee ongoing regulatory compliance during and after construction, including wildlife, wetland, and agricultural mitigation plans.
Develop or supervise the preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
Conduct and/or oversee environmental and SWPPP inspections on active construction projects.
Escalate permitting or compliance issues to senior management as needed.
Qualifications:
5-7 years of experience obtaining environmental permits from federal, state, and local agencies.
Skilled in preparing regulatory filings, studies, and applications required for project approvals.
Experience with siting infrastructure in the energy sector with attention to environmental and community impacts.
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related discipline required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
MBA and/or PMP certification is a plus.
Experience working with infrastructure projects in Substations, Transmission & Distribution, Gas, Hydro, or On-site Generation.
