Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Sales and Client Growth based in New York office

The Objective: The Director of Sales and Client Growth "Director" will drive strategic revenue growth for the firm through identifying and creating opportunities to develop and expand key client relationships. The Director will work in close collaboration with the firms' partners, business development, and communications professionals to expand Orrick's reach in the innovation economy. The Director will work to establish new strategic clients and relationships, raise the firm's profile in key markets (with a large emphasis on New York and greater East Coast), sectors and practices, and assemble winning teams, core themes and differentiation for pitches. The position will also facilitate client focused collaboration and coordination among partners, within a sector, across practices and geographies.

What will I do? The Director will be based in our New York office and will work with a national and global remit, but a strong emphasis on the NY market and greater Northeastern U.S. The Director will work closely with U.S. Tech and Life Science Sector Partners as well as Firm, Marketing and Sales Leadership teams to drive Orrick's market facing sales initiative. Metrics for success for this position will include both quantitative data on revenue impact and qualitative feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong track record in strategic planning, client service, and team collaboration, and should be adept at managing client relationships, creating business development plans, and serving as a thought leader and ambassador for Orrick at major tech market events.

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:


Responsibilities

  • Expanding and leveraging personal and firm networks of entrepreneurs, executives, venture capitalists, investors, bankers, thought leaders and other connectors to develop net new client opportunities;
  • Advising and guiding current clients (from early stage to unicorns to recently public companies) for strategic growth including financing needs and connecting them to potentially relevant investors;
  • Managing key client relationships and connecting clients across the Orrick platform for cross collaborative opportunities globally;
  • Creating, nurturing and maintaining a network of venture capital investors;
  • Serving as a source of technology market thought leadership and Orrick values both internally and externally;
  • Serving as an ambassador for Orrick at major tech market programs and events and helping craft and lead such events and sponsorships;
  • Actively supporting high-level client events, sponsorships and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes and increase ROI (e.g., CEO dinners, in-house counsel forum, high-profile CLE programs, etc.);
  • Creating actionable individual business development plans for a select group of partners;
  • Partnering with other market facing team members on increasing connectivity and cross-collaborating opportunities within Orrick's core sectors: (i) Technology & Innovation, Life Science and Healthcare, (iii) Finance, and (iv) Energy & Infrastructure;
  • Actively participating in Alumni Program and Jobs Referral Network; and
  • Serving as an internal business development partner to our attorneys.

Qualifications

  • Significant market-based experience (7+ years preferred) in a relevant business development / sales role, preferably from the tech and venture capital ecosystem.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Sales or related commercial subjects preferred.
  • Advanced degree - highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the tech ecosystem and market participants globally as well as in the New York and Boston markets - essential.
  • Knowledge of the legal and professional services sectors within the tech and VC ecosystem - highly desirable.
  • Experience working with colleagues across the professional stack, from junior-level to C-suite executives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions.
  • Strategic awareness of business and commercial issues.
  • Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Project management skills, and aptitude for developing these skills.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence others.
  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Hardworking and diligent with a keen understanding of client demands.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between $220,000 and $280,000.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
