24731BR Educational Interpreter I/II Various Description Facilitates communications for deaf/hard-of-hearing students during the school day, for academic and extracurricular activities; delivers the interpretation of audio-visual information in alignment with Individual Educational Plan (IEP) documents and in service to school needs; utilizes a variety of visual tools to meet student needs and support equal access to interpreted materials; participates in school functions and activities such as field trips and extracurricular activities; collaborates and provides technical assistance to school-based administrators, teachers, students, and staff. Qualifications Required Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate. Hold a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level I certification and/or an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certification. Knowledge of the Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) code of ethics and/or the Testing, Evaluation, and Certification Unit (TECUnit) code of conduct. Knowledge of methods, materials, practices, procedures, and programs related to deaf culture. Proficiency in the use of technology. Ability to apply knowledge to the needs and requirements of a public school system. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with culturally diverse students and staff. Ability to provide guidance and maintain confidentiality, at all times. Ability to participate in professional development activities. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Preferred Participation in an appropriate professional development training program. Qualification as an educational interpreter as determined by the Virginia Department of Education. Hold a national interpreter and/or transliterator certification.
