Job Description Summary

Training and Innovation (T&I) is a centralized group within the In vivo Science & Technology (IST) platform at the Comparative Medicine (CM) functional unit. T&I team members are responsible for planning and conducting in-person training of simple to complex in-vivo procedures for all associates who will be working with animals at Novartis Biomedical Research (BR). In parallel, T&I team works closely with BR's in-vivo community to develop and standardize novel animal models and innovative in-vivo technologies needed for target discovery and drug development. Together with animal well-being 3Rs focus, T&I team fosters insights on the best practices collaborating with BR's in-vivo scientists for technical/surgical guidance as well as implementing new technologies/models.

T&I is looking for a highly experienced Senior Scientist I candidate with excellent knowledge and skillset with animal work in an industrial vivarium setup primarily for rodents, and for some USDA species. The position requires skills that include hands-on experience on dosing with multiple routes of administration, surgical manipulations, extensive pre-and-post dose/surgery monitoring, euthanasia with blood/tissue collection. The work also comprises of practicing principles of animal welfare together with applications for various innovative/novel in-vivo procedures. The candidate ideally should have experience of training in-vivo scientists, on a range of simple to complex techniques/practices. The candidate will require working in a fast-moving team environment, coordinating with various members within IST/CM and with multiple BR teams in a highly collaborative and matrix organization. All the activities in T&I team directly support the in-vivo work essential for target discovery and development of novel therapeutics at BR for patients with unmet medical need.

Job Description

Your Key Responsibilities:
*As a member of the T&I team, you are responsible for planning, coordinating and executing training on multiple in-vivo procedures for BR in-vivo scientists in-person, maintaining high ethical and technical standards on site.

* Actively participate on performing best-in-class training practices and thrive for developing an efficient training program. Proactively responsible for maintaining compliance with institutional/regulatory policies.
* High level hands-on surgical expertise; knowledge in developing novel animal procedures/ techniques.

* Liaise with research community for comprehension of scientific rational behind study parameters to determine training needs.
* Excellent team player, show potential to lead associates/scientists on training; some prior leadership experience is advantageous.
* Responsible for reviewing/streamlining SOPs, records/documents for efficient work process.

Role Requirements:

Full time on-site; weekend/holiday coverage as/when required.
* Bachelor in Biomedical/Pharmacological Sciences or equivalent Veterinary/animal science degrees

* LAT certification desirable, Master's degree desirable
* 5+ years of hands-on experience with simple to complex in-vivo technical skills in industry

* Additional In Vivo surgical experience required
* Strong knowledge for academic/industrial animal welfare and in-vivo scientific research
* Prior experience of training in-vivo associates is highly desirable.
* Responsible for pursuing continuous development opportunities, enhancing/expanding skillset.
* Fluent in oral and written English. Conversant in mathematical calculations.
* Must be able to lift 50 lbs., be able to work from a standing position for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive motion tasks.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $93,800- $174,200/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Salary Range

$93,800.00 - $174,200.00
